Dub Power HT Leads

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Anyone bought any HT leads from the dub power website recently?

I emailed the address on the site a few days ago, but didn't get a response. Does anyone know if they have another distributor?

Cheers

Make your own - cheap as chips and work just as well as the expensive snake oil ones. Plus they'll fit in the OEM clips!

Full set cost me less than £25 in parts (for a VR) and I have plenty of spare wire left over for if any of them go dodgy. Would have been under a tenner if I wanted a standard colour like red or black

I'm thinking about doing this.

What spec wire did you use?

Did you reuse the old plug caps or get new ones?

Cable came from Vehicle Wiring Products - I used their prefabricated leads and cut the ends off as they were the only people I could find with orange silicone wire to match my orange hoses...

For the ends I had a set of Beru cables with screw-on terminals so reused those - they have a small brass self-tapping point in the bottom of the connector, you just cut the end of the wire square with a sharp knife, feed in the cable until it stops then turn clockwise until the screw is fully seated into the conductive core. A bit of WD40 helps, whatever you do don't take the rubber boot off the connectors as they're overmoulded at the factory! I only had 5 of the spark plug ends so got another couple from Just Kampers (this one, I think). Be aware these don't have the two notches in them that the factory lead removal tools hook onto so you'll need to add them with a small file.

It's so easy to do that I bin the cables when they look a little rough (the silicone does accumulate grease stains, especially on bright colours) and just make up new ones with the same connectors. I'd have to make 10 sets before spending what I would on the 'specialist' leads...

Of course, you could get a crimp tool from VWP and make them even more robust instead, the connectors aren't that dear.

...just to confirm, they are still very much in business and are available, just took a while to come back to me.

Interesting point about making your own ones, may give that a go.

Cheers

Not clear on which end he is referring to - is this the spark plug end? Those on my leads look moulded or glued on.

Thinking of making up a set of leads too as it does look very straightforward indeed.

Don't think Stonejag gets on here that much any more..

Hey dude, I'm about some of the time! But normally just on the R32 groups these days.

You can leave on the moulded ends that go to distributor or coilpack, the standard 90 degree ones fit fine. The spark plug ends are reusable if you have Bosch originals, but if you have cheaper leads or they're crimped on instead of screwed then you can buy the connectors from a bunch of places including VW, Just Kampers did mine. Part number 036 035 255J, about a fiver each. You will need to file the slots out of the side crimps to use with the removal tool, takes a few seconds per connector.
