Chain on R32 engines ? (not corrado related - more passat)

Recommended Posts

As I'v also got a 06 VW Passat with a V6 (VR6), and tried different forums to dig out information regarding chain replacement etc - are these engines just as prone to failures due to chain/guides etc as the older VR6's ?.

And eventually at what milage should one expect to have to do a service on em ?.

My Passat just passed the 100 000 km mark, so .......

As no one else seem to be able to answer - I put the Q forward to the knowledgable Corrado forum members :)

I presume it would be the same as for the Golf R32 :)

I don't know that there is a recommended mileage at which to replace the chains, at 100k I would hope you had a way to go yet. Maybe worth considering when the clutch or gearbox needs doing?

You can view cam timing (and therefore chain stretch) using VCDS /vagcom, from memory for the R32 its measuring blocks 208 and 209.

Some golfs around 2003 had faulty upper chains that snapped at very low mileages
