Jim 2 Posted September 29, 2014 It makes for grim reading, in terms of what cars were scrapped under the scheme. Pistonheads story about it here: http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=30915 The entire list of vehicles is available as a CSV file download here: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/357672/bis-foi-2014-20775-scrapped-vehicles-supporting-data.csv An eye watering 64 Corrado's were scrapped :( Also a Polo G40. Philistines!
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted September 29, 2014 11 Audi Quattros scrapped, but only 6 Allegros? :D The 64 Corrados were probably dogs and deserved to be put out of their misery!
Nick 17 10 Posted September 29, 2014 I have just been reading through this list. Some of the cars are absolutely criminal that they were scrapped.
Jim 2 Posted September 29, 2014 Couple of BMW 750 (V12's) and even some 8 series including another V12, an M3, an M5... ooft :( There does seem to be some nonsense in the data too though... apparently they scrapped 2 BMW Mazda 323 Series! 79 Scirocco's too. VAG-hag 0 Posted September 29, 2014 The 64 Corrados were probably dogs and deserved to be put out of their misery! yeah but the parts.... the precious parts!! gone :(
Jim 2 Posted September 29, 2014 Well not entirely. In fact it pretty much guaranteed the parts. Part of the scheme was that the cars could be taken to scrap yards and stripped for parts, so if anything it probably helped generate a surplus of used Corrado parts! GrahamU 6 Posted September 30, 2014 My god, what fool scraps an Escort Mexico
Jim 2 Posted September 30, 2014 There was some speculation on Pistonheads that is was more likely not to be one of the desirable / rare Mexico's but more likely one of the later types - apparently they re-used the name Mexico on I think MK3 or MK4 Escorts? DPS 10 Posted October 2, 2014 Ahhh that elusive Volkswagen Corsa... I've always wanted one of those :D :bonk: It's a shame so many Sciroccos were scrapped too, I'd love one to keep the C company but finding a good one is hard. Plus you'd have to be insane to have twice the headache :D
spanneredmonkey 0 Posted October 2, 2014 there is allsorts on that list that make the mind boggle who would scrap them, there is more than 50 landrover defenders..... a lancia delta intergrale HF turbo...... who are these morons? and can have the car they have now for a marsbar and a 1500 quid promise!! Goldie 2 Posted October 2, 2014 Im sure the only terms attached were MOT and you had to have owned it for minimum 12 months..
scarlet_vr6 0 Posted October 2, 2014 There was a silver VR at a scrappy fairly nr me. I tried to buy the whole thing but was told it was a victim of the scrappage scheme. Such a shame as the only thing wrong with it was a blown head gasket. Kris and I made a couple of trips and filled my Jetta twice over with parts. Got some good deals but they wanted too much for some of the parts... I remember them commenting how many good cars had met their end too early, including that Corrado. Jim 2 Posted October 2, 2014 The only consolation being at least they were complete cars that have gone on to provide parts to keep other Corrado's on the road. Still a crying shame though!
DPS 10 Posted October 4, 2014 (edited) I see the top gear site mention the Corrado VR6 on their scrap age scheme victims list... http://www.topgear.com/uk/photos/20-saddest-scrappage-scheme-victims-2014-09-30 It's number 20 on the list btw (best til last ;)) Edited October 4, 2014 by DPS
