surfer.vr6 0 Posted June 9, 2004 What is the difference between the 150bhp 2.0 16v engine used in the Mk3 GTIs and the 136bhp 2.0 16v engine used in the Corrado's? (Apart from the power, obviously!)
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted June 9, 2004 150 bhp = Tall block 136 bhp = Short block, 9A engine code I believe. The Corrado engine is far sweeter. The Golf 2.0 16V engine doesn't like to rev as much due to the longer con rods, and gets a bit coarse past 6K. The 9A will rev round to 7K like the 1800 KR, no probs. And yep, putting a KR inlet (or exhaust) cam on the 136bhp engine will boost the power.
daves16v 1 Posted June 9, 2004 I've heard the exhaust cam from the KR will need some machining if it's to go in the 9A. Is this correct? Does the KR inlet cam need the same work?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted June 9, 2004 I've heard the exhaust cam from the KR will need some machining if it's to go in the 9A. Is this correct? Does the KR inlet cam need the same work? Aye, the woodruff key slot needs remachining to restore the correct timing. KR inlet goes straight on. KR exhaust has 0.5mm more lift than the KR inlet and slightly more duration. On the 1800 engine with a small bore manifold & Kstar, I extracted 154bhp with 136ft/lb torque. K
daves16v 1 Posted June 9, 2004 Is there anything special pre-cautions to take when swapping the said cams over? Is it just a straight swap?
Red=Fast 0 Posted June 10, 2004 what about the 2.0L 16v that was in the passat? what sort of bhp was coming from that? did it have the tall or short block?
