Hairyarse 10 Posted January 19, 2015 Hi all! I need to buy some new boot struts for the VR. I had bought some for the valver from SGS a few months back (I've used them before and they've always been good) but these for the C don't seem strong enough. They hold the tailgate no problem but it's still a struggle to open. Has anyone used other struts that make the tailgate easier to open? I know it's heavy so not after miracles, but with the SGS ones it feels like they're resisting you push it up
Chuggs1 10 Posted January 19, 2015 Is the rear tailgate generally heavy to lift - mine certainly is
Dan_Storm 0 Posted January 19, 2015 I replaced mine a few years ago as the old struts seemed weak. Unfortunately, there was not much noticable difference with the new ones. They even made the same irritating noise :(
Hairyarse 10 Posted January 20, 2015 Sounds like there's no magic answer then?
Hairyarse 10 Posted January 21, 2015 No where much else seems to do them and genuine from VWH are over 40 quid each!! I'll boost my biceps and get the SGS ones again! lol
Dan_Storm 0 Posted January 22, 2015 I have got my old set that i keep meaning to sell. As said, there was hardly any difference between the old and new struts, so the old ones are in good condition - i guess its just the design a crap design or under-specced struts. If you were nearer i would offer you the struts to try but you may not notice any difference.
Harrier 1 Posted January 22, 2015 On my old car the tailgate felt fine to open & close but this car has less resistance & it feels much heavier . I think genuine struts would be the only way to go.
Hairyarse 10 Posted January 22, 2015 Thanks for the offer Dan. I bit the bullet and ordered some of SGS last night. Lets hope they're better this time. Couldn't bring myself to spend almost £90 on a genuine pair!
