Took to local garage:

They say if car fires up ok and drives ok (apart from stalling at slow down in nuetral)

THEN the battery and alternator are fine

pop to kwik fit and ask them to do a battery test for you if your worried about it's health. Fixing something that not broken will only sort a full wallet.

looks a few years old, few batteries if driven occasionally, short runs etc will last more than 4 or 5 winters.

A deep discharge test will show up if it's losing the ability to crank the car over, but you usually get a bit of a warning in the winter as the morning temps are low and the battery weaker.

If you're starting fine from cold and the battery holds charge I can't see how it would be causing stalling issues, electrical issues tend to show up at high revs, more likely it is fuel or air related, bad injectors at idle, idle air valve, vacuum leaks on inlet and so on.

I ll dig out my multi Meter - but wait for me to read instructions first!

Its switch to DC 20volt isn't it?

The DC 12volt is for toy batteries?

U sure?

In the dark at 8pm?

I was even contemplating cancelling our mini-meet - don't feel safe driving it anymore (esp one that have been driving an auto for past 8 years!)

My volt meter plugs in the cigarette lighter plug (assuming yours works), if not simply pop the bonnet and I'll put my multi-meter on the battery terminals.

I don't really think it matters that much - either will work fine. I would go for the larger capacity one though just to give you a bit more juice!

My VR has been stalling a lot recently when warm and as yours, when slowing down for a junction etc. I've cleaned all the air intake pipes including the ISV and then put a jubilee clip on all vac hoses and fingers crossed seems ok.
