I think they completley 2 different cars. C Vr6 is a muscly distinctive car with loads of presonality and tough looks  ,subaru on the other hand is softer, not very original in looks but it aint bad. Impreza is more tunable and has better handling than hte Vr i would imagine, and lighter, better performer overall but still it would never be a Corrado or VR6. Up to the preson driving it i guess. Cars which i would change my C would probably be s3,skyline r34, 911 or a diablo 8) but i would still keep the C :D how can i ever cheat on her :p .

Impreza is a good machine.

i am not a jap car fan. i dont like the build quality or the styling but as a a-b road bullet it cannot be beaten.

my friends run jap-innovations in oldham and specialise in subaru stuff. they have numerous cars that are at around 400hp. this is obtainable with a good exhaust, fuel and air controlers and a good boost controller. no mapping at that level but when dyno'd they come out good on air n fuel n that.

come to japanese auto extravaganza at billing, northampton this year. ill be there with the guys n my rose between the thorns.

id bet a lot that there aint a corrado about that can see one of theese cars off. i aint talkin straight line now. thats not a real test.

one more thing. try n avoid a WRX. import vehicles dont like our fuel n ive seen many having engines replaced due to runningf 95 ron fuel. insurance too is steep on a import mainly due to some using ally panels which you cant get over here.

go UK car. cheaper parts and seem a tad more sturdy

The Scooby is a nice motor. I was considering buying an absolute mint example from a work mate, but worked out the running costs & decided it was too expensive.

Performance - well, on the open road there won't be a lot in it compared with the VR6. Although the Scooby has power, the weight is a little heavier & the turbo needs winding up for full boost. The VR6 has better mid range grunt & sounds fantastic, but so does that off beat flat four. On a track day, it's different story. This is where the scooby will excel. The grip in & out of corners is brilliant & at silly speeds they are in their element.

Styling & looks - The Turbos look OK but not outstanding IMO. The STI is better.

I don't think there is a better looking coupe than the Corrado!

I'm also a Rallying fan, in fact I like all types of motosport. The Scooby is a rally legend, but there are so many on the roads now.

The Corrado VR6 is more of a rareity on the roads. I liked driving my Corrado G60 for the sheer head turning ability.

if the scooby is standard there wont be a lot in in in a straight line but there aint many standard ones left around my area. 1.4bar will leave a vr standing mid-range too.

My best mate works as an engine builder for Prodrive and he says that the UK spec impreza's engines are inferior to the Jap spec. The water jackets are weaker and number three big end is infamous for failing

that maybe true if running on what it was mapped for but we dont run on jap grade fuel. Std jap cars run higher boost.

can only go off what i am told and what i see in the workshop a few times a week.( i use their ramps. rolling in the c adds much needed class to the est.)

number 3 is the weakest cylinder in one-longest distance.

apparently it doesn't take a lot to make the whole bottom end swish n knock valves once the crank bearings are dead

In general the jap spec scooby is v similar STi 5 is the strong one.

better shell, engines, gear ratios etc

but if things go wrong thats when the problem starts.

my mates are blitz,HKS,MRT,Pace,White lines, Link distributers and so have jap/aus contacts but even they cannot get the stuff. a ally front end repaired half steel is a common one.

not knocking it.

gotta remember that the scooby is more modern technology and has more hp n a rally bred chassis so should be the speed winner everytime.

bet the scoob wasn't happy. well done mate. was it a standing start too. :D

not been out in a std subaru for around 3 years so they probly aint as good as i think. probly the tuned ones are differnet beasies

i see the merits but after all i drive what i do for a reason n its not that the c is cheaper.

Well a friend has recently been in a Turbo Scobbie (old shape) and he said I'd have it in straight line no problem (and I did) but on the twisty stuff the 4WD will come into effect....or in the wet in a straight line - but I wouldnt stand a chance in hell against the newer Subaru turbo's.... you have to remember that even though the old Scoobie has more BHP it also has more transmission losses due to 4wd and is heavier... once I got to over 80mph (on nans private track) it was obvious the Scoobie was struggling...

But like I said I wouldnt want to race a newer one or one that has been modded *:)

And no he wasnt a happy chappy *:)

Cant say I'd beat every old Scoobie though - alot of it is driver element, engine condition and so on... but I beat one and thats enough *:)

In Mike's words ' Just get them out on the table and measure them' is probably apt.. *:)

new ones are no quicker than old unless its STi. they boost a liottle earlier than the old ones though.

if you can do a old one try a new one as most are still std. build a reputation

Yeah the new shape WRXs aren't any threat to a VR6 in a straight line. That's not to say the VR would trounce it, far from it, they're just evenly matched. I followed one up my favourite hill yesterday. A nice long hill is a good test for grunt and there is an evil chicane at the top of it for added fun! Anyway, both flooring it (him in front showering my car with stones) and there was nothing in it. The chicane was the biggest surprise though - you can only do 45-50 over it max as it's very sharp with steep cambers - as the Scoob got well out of shape. I didn't exactly glide over it but I was in control none the less. It was a brand new scoob, so he probably wasn't used to it and it probably wasn't run in either :?

With regard to the old shape, they are excellent fun and so easy to drive. We took my mates on a huge beach in Wales and just did stupid things with it, 70mph donuts, tailslides, 4 wheel slides....you name it. He just didn't care as we were driving over stones and drift wood pissing himself with laughter. The fun ended when the nearside tyre fell off the rim and the engine over heated. Both issues sorted in within half-an-hour and off we went. Now that is bullet proof mechanicals for you.

As for Scoobys, i love the classic ones, just started likin the bug eye ones. New ones are ok, seen better.

Kinda Raced an RB5 Came to an abrupt end when the bus pulled out in front of us!!! :bad-words: Was lookin close too! Scooby was a bit tuned too.

Been utterly embarrased by a tuned WRX tho! Totally puts you in your place :!: . Been passenger in a std. vers. and it throws you RIGHT back into your seat!!!! :D

If this conversation moves to Civic type R's (modern) Then ill just say one thing.... I thought they were meant to be fast!!!!

Brian, couldn't agree more with your comment on the Civic Type R!! I tested one and not a lot happened when it was in the 'VTEC' zone! Gotta love that gearbox though! Slickness and precision the Corrado can only dream about.
