8vMatt 1 Posted January 24, 2016 Hi guys, I have a K&N or similar aftermarket air filter for the 2.0 16v. Can these be cleaned out? Any thoughts on a secondhand value? Cheers.
VAG-hag 0 Posted January 24, 2016 Yes. Remove it and Hoover it out. There are special cleaners and oils to use on them too :)
8vMatt 1 Posted January 24, 2016 Cheers mate. Worth doing to sell it? Or not spend the time & just sell as is?
VAG-hag 0 Posted January 25, 2016 I'd give it a once over but tbh wouldn't go buying the cleaner or oil as it will leave you short selling it....
VAG-hag 0 Posted January 25, 2016 Shame you are so far away as I have the kit you could use
robrado974 1 Posted January 25, 2016 I had the cleaner too matt , but I left it in someone's garage ! .
g0ldf1ng3r 15 Posted January 25, 2016 good question from the OP :) has anyone got any advice for BMC's? or is it a similar case or remove & vac thanks
VAG-hag 0 Posted January 25, 2016 I would think that BMC would be the same as they are a mesh filter aren't they?
Dox 23 Posted January 25, 2016 I've cleaned a panel filter with a hose pipe, just pinched the end of the pipe together with my fingers (no pressure needed) and back washed it (washed the crud out in the direction it came in), then dropped the filter onto old news paper to expel the last of the dead fly mulch. The filter washes are just water based anyway aren't they? The Jetex filter came up as new and was sold via ebay

cmalyan 11 Posted January 25, 2016 BMC also have a cleaning kit you can use - I found this guide on metro power(?!) http://www.metropower.org.uk/forum/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=63673&posts=

Dox 23 Posted January 25, 2016 The guide says saturate the filter with oil, not a good idea as excess oil will contaminate the MAF, a "light oiling" is usually recommended in the instructions?
VAG-hag 0 Posted January 25, 2016 yeah I would go for a light covering too. and give it time to allow excess to drain off :thumbleft:
