8v Cambelt change

Recommended Posts

My 8V will soon be needing a cam belt. Im just after anyones advice on where to source the parts. Am i best off going to the dealer? What make belt should i be using?

Additionally while I'm in there what else should i change, tensioner etc?

Thanks in advance..

Depends how confident you are with aftermarket parts Michael.

When I had my mk3 GTI (AGG engine but essentially the same) I did the cambelt, and just bought a kit from ECP. It was a Contitech one iirc, and came with the tensioner and was pretty cheap. Definitely change the tensioner at the same time as the belt though.

Id prefer to use something that is OE but don't know if VW make their own belts or if they are made by a third party..

'Gates' are possibly the best you can get imo , fitted as O.E on many makes.

Buy it as a kit with the tensioner pulley.

:)

Most motor factors could supply it.

Continental / Contitech are an OE belt certainly for auxiliary belts so would be surprised if they aren't for cam belts too.
