GIAC are american and thus optimised to the 2.8 SLC engine. Good alternatives are an ECU remap by Geoff Everett (ex AMD) at Stealth or a Stealth supplied and optimised Unichip 'piggy back' system. Around the £400 mark for each. The latter is better if you plan on gradual mods to the engine. The former requires a new chip everytime you modify the engine. No two engines are the same unfortunately, so to get the best results for your particular engine, ideally you need a rolling road optimised map. Superchips do 'off the shelf' ones but they only have Golf VR6 maps, so not suited to the 2.9. The chips are expensive because of the licensing costs for the map software. And standard ECUs have to have the hardwired chip unsoldered and a chip holder put in it's place. The blank chips aren't especially cheap either. DEL VR6 0 Posted July 31, 2004 are Stealth any good for this sort of thing? i was there for the midlands rolling road, and i was well impressed with the way they work, and they already sorted out my cam belt position sensor which instantly gave me back some 20bhp, as the car wasnt running right with that sensor being faulty. can a chip / remap really get anymore out of the VR?
