sunroof motor required

Recommended Posts

I purchased a re-conditioned sunroof motor for my VR6 corrado last year and it was working fine until 2 months ago.

Now it opens fine but on closing it only reaches half way and then i have to keep pressing/nudging the button to move it to completely close.

I am guessing that the motor cannot be reset or reconfigured so i am now in the market for a replacement.

Has anyone got a spare they would be happy to sell me?

Get a mk3 golf one. Perfect fit if it's the later plug and a better replacement. Just make sure it's set up/aligned Correctly b4 final fitting

I just got mine from a vw breaker, out of the mk3 golf. I took it off. Miles better a unit. Sorry I don't know the part number, but they have the rectangular plug like the later corrado's

Hi Cressa, i did as you suggested and purchased a mk3 golf sunroof motor and fitted it.

Unfortunately it only tilts open and closes but it does not slide the roof backwards and forwards.

Very disappointing.

Strange as they do. With the motor removed can you manually wind the sunroof all the way open and closed freely.

With the motor plugged into the wiring but not the sunroof, will it do all the operations on the switch?

Yes i tried pushing the button up and down and this tilted open and closed the sunroof - which was fine.

However when i push the same button backwards and forwards expecting the sunroof to slide back and forwards it didnt, it tilted

open again in the same way as pushing the button up and down?...

I can only think that the electrics on the MK3 motor don't accommodate for the 'sliding' action.

When i put my old motor back in, the button worked with all 4 actions, but still only slides half way over.

I'll try and get to my motor and see if there is a part number on it

Ok buddy, many thanks for your help and sorry to put you through the trouble. Yes it is exactly that number - 3A0 959 731B

Strange because it only tilted the sunroof but no 'slide'.

However, just this afternoon i have been told by a specialist mechanic who works on sunroofs that both the motors (the original Corrado and Mk3 Golf) are probably fine and there is nothing wrong with them. He said it is probably the cables that need degreasing instead because of all the dirt grease and grime that has collected over 20 years. Apparently its a big job and you have to take out the who sunroof cassette and remove all the grease the the cables are bone dry and then don't re-grease but use WD40 instead. (grease collects dirt) I was quoted a 2 day job for £400.00. Ouch!

I think i might get a 2nd opinion...

Its just the advice i was given... maybe bad advice, but that is what i was told. But yes i agree i think they should remain lubed up.

But i guess the cables need to be cleaned regardless...

Don't use wd40..

Vw sell a very expensive specialist grease, or you can use liquid moli, which is an equivalent at a fraction of the cost. Ebay.

I was recommended it on here, used it and it is good. Made a hell of a difference. I'd tried WD initially and it didn't cure my problem.

Lillfuzzer, don't suppose you have a black drivers foot trim panel that fits on the A Post?
