The worst vw dealership

Recommended Posts

My local dealership must be the worst in the uk. i split a top radiator hoseand had to wait 17 days for the part to arrive, and when i complained i was told"its not that bad, at least your cars not off the road". Do vw recommend running with no coolant!

On my next visit i needed a peice of hose for the rear brakes on the mk4, only to be told that it is a common fault and there are no parts in the country. i phoned another dealers that day and got the part myself. At least this time i was told "It may be dangerous to drive the car, you should keep it off the road".

Then yesterday i needed a surclip for the gearbox linkage, same story need to order it, come back during the week.

So i nominate Camerons of perth the worst dealership i know off, can you better it? :p

I'm still waiting for my Lupo wipers that I ordered In September 2003.

Fair enough, I back-ordered them and haven't chased them (as I got them elsewere), but I'm still waiting for a call :D

Spirit, Leamington Spa.

Full 100K service, 237 quid to include coolant temperature senser, here's what they missed (that I'd already spotted myself and had the parts in the dining room ready to go on):

- 4 knackered shocks

- Knackered rear bump stops

- Virtually inoperative handbrake mechanism

- Seized and inoperative rear calier (which I didn't notice until removal!)

They also billed me for a 5 litre can of semi-synthetic for a 4-litre sump. When I asked where the can was with the extra litre in case I ever need to top-up, there was a brief conflab in the workshop (behind closed doors) then they came back with an unopened 1 litre bottle - "oh, he had JUST used the other litre in another car".

Bill me for 5 litres? Give me 5 litres then :p

Which begs the question...what the HELL do I pay them 200 quid for? It appears that if it doesn't come up on the diagnostics computer, they're pretty much stumped...

My local dealer is great... very friendly, know Corrado's, give me parts prices where applicable, 10% when not, order stuff in and it arrives the next day.

The only bad thing I can say is when I give them a bit list of things I want, they invariably forget something. They don't charge me for it either though :)

Well for parts alone (never dared take my Corrados into their workshop), Listers VW in Coventry have been very good. Always friendly, always knock me money off, and always nip through ETKA to find the parts without any probs.

Top bunch.

I nominate Corkills of Onchan, Isle of Man now known as Lancaster - main VW dealer

Reasons:

Refusal to honour my warranty claim for my VR based on excessive oil consumption/lots of oil smoke after having had the car for 1500 miles and with new valve stem oil seals having been fitted immediately before I bought it. Their skilled mechanics didn't notice the valve guide wear? (the rest of the story is elsewhere on these pages);

No warranty claim without my paying for a head stripdown first at around £500-600 in order for them to decide whether it's a warranty claim at all. So, distinct possibility of engine in bits; "it's not a warranty claim at all sir" that'll be £500 plus VAT.

Stuff that, they will never see any business from me and as many people as i can persuade not to use them.

I'd like to point out I've only ever had parts from my local stealer, I'm doing most of the work with my mate. Anything too big and I'll get a specialist to do it.

It's not so much an issue of trust, more of price... £75/hr or free sir? Even Stealth are only £40/hr!

But at least you know that the £40 an hour at Stealth is WORTH it! :D 8)

Every penny.... well so I hear. I've got some other issues to attend to before my C makes the trip up there, but it will at some point.

Yeah - definately worth the £40/hour. They always do a proper job. Don't think i've ever heard a bad word about them in fact.

my local dealer is friendly and as helpfull as they can. okay not much in stock for a G60 ( like an oil filter ) but most G60 stuff is unique to that engine and car, so not supprised. most stuff within 2 days unless on back order.

and yes mk4 rear flexis are on back order but most dealers can omly check within there group and milternkeynes not all local dealers, so yes you might be able to go down the road and get it
