stuarttaylor37 13 Posted October 31, 2016 Hi Ive got a broken exhaust stud I want to replace. Never done this before, anyone recommend any of the various type of stud extractors on Ebay etc please?
robrado974 1 Posted October 31, 2016 I didn't have any luck with them , but mine was in an awkward place . The best way forward , is to weld a nut on the end of the Broken stud .
stuarttaylor37 13 Posted October 31, 2016 No welder!
robrado974 1 Posted October 31, 2016 I would go for the nut type extractor rather than the screw in type then .
MattPc 0 Posted October 31, 2016 I've used Irwin easy out socket in the past, work really well. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Irwin-Bolt-Grip-Remover-Expansion/dp/B000QW6K8I
robrado974 1 Posted October 31, 2016 I think these are your best bet . They would have worked on mine , but as I said it was really difficult to get to.
stuarttaylor37 13 Posted October 31, 2016 Ive got Irwins so I'll try them on the bust one. Ever tried these? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181590819769?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649
robrado974 1 Posted October 31, 2016 They look better , you can put pressure on the ratchet to get a good bite on the thread.
Jim Bowen 1 Posted October 31, 2016 Is any thread visible? You can sometimes get two nuts on a stud and turn the inner one to unwind it.
stuarttaylor37 13 Posted October 31, 2016 (edited) Yep theres about 1/2 inch visible, I'm also going to try and change a downpipe on my tdi, I could just go to an exhaust place but I fancy at least trying myself first. I was hoping the ones Ive linked to may give me a fighting chance of removing and replacing studs if I break any Edited October 31, 2016 by stuarttaylor37
