c8hau 0 Posted July 12, 2004 as the title says, went to GTI festival yesterday and know there measuring apparatus is very accurate. The best I could manage was 15.362 this is with a schrick VSR, unichip, induction and exhaust? Whats the best I can hope for with this setup? might have something to do with my shocking reaction times! .
Henny 0 Posted July 12, 2004 I got a 15.345 as my best with a reaction of .468 in my G60 It seems to me that it's about launch technique as well as out and out power... I KNOW the power's there 'cos I was spinning it in 1st and 2nd on each run, but I'm damned if I could work out how to stop it doing it without bogging the engine down...
PhatVR6 0 Posted July 12, 2004 I managed a 14.5, but you'd hardly call mine standard. and it's even running the stock 8v exhaust too!! LOL! you should be able to rn a 15.0, even a 14.9 with a stock vr6 if you can drive. practice makes perfect. reaction time doesn't count against your ET.... I managed a 2.105 60' time yesterday, that should be good enough for a sub 6 0-60 time in old money.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 12, 2004 I find slipping the clutch when pulling away at the lights gives a much smoother and quicker get away, so that must hold true on the track too. In fact, on a standard geared VR it's a necessity as 1st is a bit tall and it will bog down with insuffcient revs. AND, there is less torque at 1500 rpm (when the motor just starts to get going) with the VGI than there is the standard manifold. VR6 0 Posted July 12, 2004 Is launcing in 2nd an option worth considering?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 12, 2004 Not on a standard box as the amount of slipping required will be excessive and the clutch won't last long. With a VGI, I guess the best method would be a bit of slip in 1st, get it 4000rpm and change to 2nd as quickly as possible and then the revs should fall nicely into the VGI 3500rpm peak torque range, then gun it. Phat's box could probably get away with 2nd gear starts though, but he's the 1/4 mile man so is prolly the best person to advise. K
Joe M 0 Posted July 12, 2004 Surely if theres no wheelspin then it would be better to hold all gears till redline as there wil be more torque to the wheels than if you changed up a gear.
Henny 0 Posted July 12, 2004 wonder if it'd be worth it for me... ;) :|
Scott 0 Posted July 12, 2004 standard VR's are supposed to do quarter mile in 15.1 ..........
Joe M 0 Posted July 12, 2004 Schrick shouldnt really do anything for the quarter mile, once the cars moving the revs will be kept aboive the flap changeover anyway.
PhatVR6 0 Posted July 13, 2004 I've tried shifting early and using the torque of the schrick. it doesn't work. launch in 1st, use proper tyres, let down to 20psi. take 1st almost to the redline, and the same with 2nd, but shift into 3rd just before you know where the power tails off. due to my poxy standard chip I was finding I was having to upshift a bit earlier than normal, mainly becasue there was no power to be found above 6000rpm. quite frustrating really, as I was riding most of the runs out in 4th with next to no acceleration towards the end as I was running out of revs. and I even managed to get into 5th on one run! c8hau 0 Posted July 14, 2004 so is it best to take it to the redline in every gear baring in mind I have the schrick ?? Think I need more practice!
