x-router 0 Posted July 19, 2004 Does anyone else think that the VW hose clips are indeed evil and probably made in the very belly of hell and that the designer who came up with them should be killed very painfully? Or is it just me? I have been slowly changing over to use the screw type clips which are much nicer as normaly you don't have to spend hours fighting with the damn things just to get your radiator hose back on. One word of warning if you do convert make sure you don't over tighten the screw type.
randal 0 Posted July 19, 2004 Couldn't agree more, they are a bloody pain in the a$$ Had much grief getting a set off when the oil warmer cooler hose went on mine. Jubliee clips are the way forward, most def.
pablo_vr6 0 Posted July 19, 2004 there is a little tool that does them well handy ;) pity my mate waited till AFTER i wrestled for 10 mins with pliers to tell me this !!!
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 19, 2004 I love those VW clamp hoses. If you've got wide jaw pliers or the proper tool, they pose no problems. They're designed to apply the correct clamping pressure and look neater than jubilees imo.

Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 19, 2004 Not had one go soggy on me in 13 years of VW ownership. Jubilees look messy and they can feck up too. Like my inlet hose one did recently!
kangaroo 0 Posted July 19, 2004 Agh! I hate those clamps too. I would definitely banish them to the automotive room 101 given the chance.

Tempest 0 Posted July 20, 2004 Same here, Jubilees all the way, the VW ones are fairly easy to get off with pliers (normally), depends on where they're located and how easy it is to get your pliers in there, though  I suppose they are quicker to fit with the right tool (I'm not a fan, though, of specialist VW tools like in the Bentley "Use VW tool no. so-and-so" Noooooo, I haven't got b****rd VW-tool so-and-so  ), and I suppose that extra ring around which the clip goes protects a bit.
