ShockVR6 0 Posted July 21, 2004 ok, i bought and fitted the valve and the car doesnt feel much different to when it was split and the car also wants to stall 50% of the times i pull up to a junction. HELP !!! any ideas anyone ?
KADVR6 0 Posted July 21, 2004 clean out your idle valve with some carb cleaner & kitchen cloth mate, that should do it?? :)
ShockVR6 0 Posted July 21, 2004 do you think its something to do with me running the car whilst the valve was split ? before i realized it was split
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 21, 2004 If the engine wants to stall at junctions, adjust the dashpot (bellows behind the throttle that 'catches' the butterfly and lowers it gently to rest) by slackening the 13 mm nut and raising it to the max height just before it mechanically forces the butterfly open. Also check the Idle valve for binding (tell tale scoring on the internal valve). Clean the IS valve out as already mentioned, followed by a quick squirt of silicon maintanence spray. Should sort you out. K
craigowl 0 Posted July 21, 2004 This valve is MISSING on the Samco replacement hose. I have not found any problems, in fact I thought the car ran better on a regular 130 mile round trip on the M90 getting my best mpg yet of 32.1 with my VR6 on Monday. Can any of the experts tell me whether the valve is actually needed? Is it merely a neurotic environmentalists idea? Will running the car with the plain Samco hose which dispenses with all the gubbins on the original VW hose (the one that perished away on ShockVR6's engine) ultimately cause a problem? I have asked this question another way once before on the forum but no-one answered it. So fellas, I should be very grateful if you could please give me the benefit of your extendulous knowledge. Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 21, 2004 It's not actually a valve as such, but a fine mesh filter. The Samco kit is moulded from the Pre 94 engine, which does not have this PCV filter arrangement (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) Early engines crudded up the throttle body easily (6 cylinders worth of blow-by gases = lots of oil in the inlet) so VW stuck the filter onto later engines in an attempt to reduce oil ingress. Doesn't work though :? Your engine will be fine without the part that's broken on ShockVR6's engine. K
ShockVR6 0 Posted July 21, 2004 Problem solved(i hope) , I had to reset the ECU after I fitted the new valve/filter thing. It runs sweet now and instead of the revs dropping too fast and stalling when i approached a junction, they now drop smooth and dont fall below 500 which is what my car now idles smoothly on. Do you think 500 is too low ?
craigowl 0 Posted July 21, 2004 Do you think 500 is too low ? (ShockVR6) Mine is steady at about 750. Your engine will be fine without the part that's broken on ShockVR6's engine thanks kevh - After 97K my ISV was dry with no oil - merely a fine powdering of what looked like carbon, and easy to clean. I wonder if it will get oily now that the filter you talk about is gone? Doesnt matter I suppose, as the ISV is easy to get to for cleaning (thanks to the info from you guys).
