CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted July 20, 2004 Hello all Drove home from work the other day ,came close to my house and the car started to splutter badly and kicking out loads of fuel at the rear.(from the exhaust) Anyhow..Did the usual and checked for worn plugs ect ..but they are new same with leads,No 2 Cylinder is Very wet with fuel, cranked it over without plugs and fuel spurted out of no two Thought I had F**ked injector!? Took of manifold then fuel rail cranked over to see if injectors where ok...but no. When key is cranked for a split second No2 Injects continuously until you switch off ignition?? Swapped over two injectors still the same with No 2.. So not to bore you,its been fitted with a crappy superchip for over a year now and I suspect its the fault. Going to go back to the company who fitted it to get it fixed, but from past history they are con's and will do sod all So I have the stock Cpu in front of me...thinking of putting the old girl back in :D
Joe M 0 Posted July 20, 2004 Nothing to do with the current problem, but I read its better to use the standard chip with nos as when the cars remapped with other chips the timing is advanced and can cause problems.
CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted July 21, 2004 I've heard this also but it works fine.. I've put OE chip back in and its the same !! Once its cold it will run fine for 1-2 minutes and then it will just gets worse as it warms up.....ideas?
Guest Posted July 21, 2004 The injectors are fired by the ECU "grounding" them. Either you've got a short to ground in the wiring between the injector and the ECU or the ECU has a short circuit in it. Get yourself a Bentley or Russek manual and use the wiring diagrams to trace back to the ECU connector.
CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted July 21, 2004 I did a continuity check from injectors to ecu plug its fine, its fine when cold but gets worse as engine temp rises,I know it will be an ECU fault so im on the look out for one
Henny 0 Posted July 21, 2004 have you had a clutch done in the recent past? Reason I ask is that if they've tried to start it without connecting the engine's earth strap properly, the next easiest path for the engine to earth through is the ECU! :| Open up the ECU and see if there's a burnt track, that'll be the earth one, simply solder a thick wire in it's place if it's burnt and give it another go... I've done this to several different VWs in my time (fixed 'em not burnt the ECUs! ;) )
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 21, 2004 Yeah the ECU is at fault. The sequential injector 'open time' controller for number 2 is shot. How old is the car? If it's pre 95, make sure you get an AG ECU, and not a CP as that's immobilised. K
