Huge Jolting & Power Loss Operating Electric Windows

Recommended Posts

Hi guys so I've had an issue for some time that I have overlooked however now it's time to address this somewhat odd occurrence.

VR6

Whenever I am driving and decide to operate the electric windows I get a weird surge from the engine or electrical system.

1) Operating drivers window I notice a small drop in power

2) Operating the passenger window I notice a large drop in power

3) Both are accompanied by jolting of the engine

This is more severe when the car is stationery or moving at slow speed.

Traveling with more gas on the pedal seems to eliminate this issue.

Has anyone else experienced this??

My first thought leads me to believe the alternator is at fault, or the voltage regulator within.

Any ideas on this?

You have the little volt meter at the bottom right?

Mine drops voltage operating windows, and having headlights on, but does not get the jolting.

Could be a combo of things tbh. I wouldn't expect the voltage drop to cause engine judder unless you have a problem with weak spark in the first place. Have a good check of the leads, plugs and coil pack before assuming the alternator is at fault. (Though you can check the voltages pretty easily on that.)

A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

Two thoughts, do you have a total closure type alarm fitted? Inspect the window relay inside the rear quarter panel on the drivers side for shorting or water ingress.
