voo51 0 Posted June 9, 2018 Has anyone got any ideas on how to open the door when the lock/latch has jammed onto the door striker?? I've got my door card off from the inside and pulled the rod. It Has a positive open feel but the door won't physically open. I've removed the outside window trim and I can see the door handle pushing the latch downalthough it feels it gets jammed sometimes. Im stuck and The car now looks like someone has tried to break in!... oh wait , I have!!
fla 9 Posted June 9, 2018 Sounds like the door seal has gotten stuck onto the frame if the door rod is pulling the latch down. Try pulling the rod and from the inside easing the door open by pressing round the edge. Otherwise use a straw on a release oil can and spray into the lock from the inside while you move the door rod
easypops 8 Posted June 9, 2018 There are 2 bits that the handle can operate, one is the latch to open the door the other ,just behind it will lock the door, you need to have the back one up and push the front one down, I’ve a door outside with the handle removed, would a couple of pictures help? voo51 0 Posted June 9, 2018 The latch that goes over the striker does not appear to be lifting there is mention in the internal door rod and on the handle. I can See the handle is pushing the lock and unlock lever correctly. How do I upload photos?! There used To be anattatch image option years ago. easypops 8 Posted June 9, 2018 This is to open the door, down to open Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
voo51 0 Posted June 9, 2018 Easypops - all that works fine. It still won't disengage from the striker
voo51 0 Posted June 9, 2018 The handle will onlypull out half way unless I pull the interior one first or at the same time. Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
voo51 0 Posted June 9, 2018 I think I have got to release the hatch from the tiny gap between the door and body on the inside but it's so hard to feel where to try and press Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
easypops 8 Posted June 9, 2018 When you are pulling the door handle and it’s sticking, the striker on the handle is trying to push the opening mechanism down, this is how these handle strikers break. Be careful you don’t snap yours unless you’ve already replaced the striker? Best to try to push the mechanism manually , it’s the one nearest the door skin
voo51 0 Posted June 9, 2018 I've partially removed the door card and can pull the internal opening rod but it's still not opening. I've tried pushing the lever down with a screwdriver. It still won't open. It's as though this spring is broken on the old latch... Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
easypops 8 Posted June 9, 2018 It’s not a job I envy you. Even with the door card fully removed I can’t get my hand in the space to press the latch. The danger of doing it blind is you end up pressing the back latch. It is possible to go down the front between the door and glass but again that way takes you closer to the rear latch so you’d have to have a bent tool of sorts to get to the front latch
easypops 8 Posted June 9, 2018 Don’t give up, I’m sure someone with better experience of these things will be along and will give you a better solution
easypops 8 Posted June 9, 2018 Ok, so I have a way that will hopefully help you press the latch, although I’m doing it without a door handle in the way Do I used a long thin spoon, with a mild bend Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
voo51 0 Posted June 9, 2018 Nope, it's not the levers. They will not open it. I tried it anyway with no luck. Has anyone got a photo of a standard latch in closed postion? The one on the driversdoor is aftermarket Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
voo51 0 Posted June 9, 2018 Well, I've done it!!! Imso happy!!! I managed to feel with one finger from the inside of the car between the door and the body by pushing against the seal where the latch was. It is inline with the door car upper screw bracket. I then jammed a pointed screw driver thing that looks like a giant tooth pick into it and wiggle it quite aggressively. This opened it part way which then allowed me to see and do it again. I've now fitted a new one and fully greased it up before it went on just incase! I'm not sure what is broken on the old one as it works most of the time now it's off the car. I can't tell You how happy I am! This feeling is exactly what owning an older car is all about!!! Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
