VR6 Advice

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Yet another advice post probably to add to the hundreds before.

After careful consideration ive decided to buy a Corrado VR6, im looking for info regarding purchasing and running one.

Seen one locally with 119k on the clock M reg, recently had the timing chain done (dont know exact details) Full VAG history. Looks mint inside and out, havent taken it for a drive yet, and need to look at it more carefully. What should i keep an eye out for before buying, also are there any common faults that might show up in the near future based on its age and mileage. Mileage is a little more than i had thought of buying, generally how far should the car/engine go before major costs are involved.

I am speaking in general terms as i dont know the exact history of the vehicle as yet.

I have looked over the buyers guide but just wondered if other things tend to pop up.

Thanks in advance for bearing with a complete Corrado dunce

If its had the timing chains done make sure the value stems seals were done too. These should have been done at the same time otherwise it was a waste of time. If you drive it, make sure it doesn't smoke after a lengthy period of over-run. I.e. Get the car up to 60mph or so and then leift your foot off the gas and let it slow down to 20-30mph (without braking or changing gear) and then sink your foot on the throttle. No smoke = good engine, seals fine and no bore wear!!

If it had the chain/stems seals etc done already, you're talking about an easy £1k saving that you wont have to spend on the car in the near future!! 8)

Hope that helps

Timo.

Hi Tekara.. for a guide to allll the wonderful bits and pieces to look out for on a Corrado, head into Common Corrado Questions and look gor the sticky thread titled Corrado Buyers Guide - print a copy and take it along with you when you go for a look at the car, and you will appear to be the most knowlegeable Corrado buyer :D
