Fan foliage seal

Recommended Posts

I’m getting a wet passenger footwell and i’m sure it’s down to the seal on the heater blower in the scuttle.

The door membrane is good as i’ve done this job lots of times before.

One thing i did notice is i think someone had fitted a left hand drive cover which clips onto the bottom of the windscreen as it has a hole for a wiper arm so that might not be helping either?

But need to get the square foam seal from somewhere? or do i just use silicone and glue it down

cheers

I’m sure I read the other day that you can get the seal . Heritage/ classic parts . I used silicone to seal mine , I did it years ago , never had a problem. I hope I’m not tempting fate now lol .

Not to cause uneccesary worry , I'm sure there was a member selling a great Corrado that was damaged through an electrical fire that two members off here purchased. I think he mentioned that he thought it was a leak in that seal that caused elctricity to arch and cause a fire on the blower motor. Might be completley wrong but I now carry a fire extinguisher in the glove box and a spanner to disconnect the battery if such an occurence happened.

Also with any leaks the first port of call is to check none of the cars drains are blocked , there are some in the sunroof, one on either bottom side of the door towards the engine, not sure where the rest are but I'm sure the other members we be able to help out.

No problem mate I just had a leak in my R129 in the rear footwell and the mechanic stripped out the whole back seats and boot, turns out it was the rear drains were blocked cost me a few hundred in labour for him to rod out a drain oh the joys, was disappointed as a Merc specialist he did not know this before stripping it all out as I gave him photos and pinpoint instructions but did not read them hey ho :bonk:
