Squishy brakes?

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I have an issue with my brakes.

It’s as if I have to pump them twice to get the required braking needed. First push of the pedal it just feels soft, and then second time as if they have been bled and brand new.

Any ideas? Appreciate any help.

Faulty servo or vacuum connection to it, or possibly seals going on the brake master cylinder.

Have you tried doing a full bleed first?

I'd start with the basics, full strip and clean of all 4 corners before a smear of copperslip and reassembly - pads jammed in the carriers will give a long pedal.

Check the rear handbrake levers return fully to there stops and the handbrake is adjusted properly - seized handbrake levers or cables adjusted too tight that don't allow the levers to full return to the stops don't allow the self adjusting mechanisms to do there thing giving a long pedal.

It does sound like the classic symptom of the brake master cylinder going, where the pedal sinks but then feels better once you've pumped up the pedal a few times.

Look for any signs of brake fluid leaking from the back of master cylinder, where it's bolted to the brake servo, as you can sometimes see brake fluid stains running down the servo.

If your Corrado has ABS then the master cylinder has been obsolete for a few years now,

but you can get them rebuilt by a company called PAST PARTS.

But as DOX has said I'd check everything else first just in case.

Si
