_Matt_ 32 Posted April 18, 2023 HI, Anyone know much about these upgrades? My car came with it. There is a big receipt (£900 in parts) supporting the rear upgrade and that seems a lot of money to spend on rear brakes. Want to make a decision on what is worth keeping and getting rid of. On the rears anyone know if it is possible to fit a smaller diameter brake set up and keep whatever the benefits are - suppose any mk4 rear disc set up should fit but would they fit under a 15in speedline? At the moment I have it on 16in speedlines but it needs a 20mm+ spacer at the back to fit over the caliper and I'm not really into that - just want a fast road setup without spacers and 30mm max lowering and tyres well away from arches to avoid paint damange. It's a similar story up front - it has Brembo 4pot 305s but needs a massive spacer to clear wheel and the tyre is borderline MOT fail on current camber setup. Will probably sell them on, a shame as discs/pads and calipers are like new, and going to a 288 setup as I want to be able to fit 15in speedlines sometimes. I am sure they would fit under a 17 or a different 16. If there are advantages I am not seeing do say. I'm unlikley to track the car and I'm the type of driver that will have a few mins of fun down a favourite B raod and then revert back to cruising i.e it will never see an hour of abuse. Dox 23 Posted April 18, 2023 (edited) Pics would be good. The rears are 256mm vented? Fronts could be redeployed with smaller disks and calliper adaptors maybe? Purple toms sale thread, he was one of the first in the UK to master the 256mm brake upgrade, not sure if you'll find anything in his threads with speediness fitted? dragon green 5 Posted April 21, 2023 16vG60 (John) sells a vented rear brake kit(John Mitchell racing)Does sound like one of his kits, he doesn’t do a vented kit to go under 15” wheels, (I enquired)
_Matt_ 32 Posted April 21, 2023 Cheers guys. Got some pics - likely to be looking to take it all off and go 288s up front and a smaller caliper/disc at the back. Perhaps retain the stubaxle and bearing setup - polo carrier and a suitable caliper has been mentioned as something that might work? Oh and some more pics to explain why I got myself into this project. Needs a lot £££££ on the body so anything I can sell on to make it more viable will save the car. Some others bits not photod - new mocal, cda, spare subframe, axle, rack for refurb. New miltek fitted. Carbon bonnet and tailgate. Fibreglass wings and the originals (need repair). Will sell on wings to pay to repair the originals with DST later this year Aim is an oem plus car with koni/h&r, ability to fit 15s, stealth fettle engine, excellent body. Dox 23 Posted April 22, 2023 Rears appear to be a hybrid set up, OE taper bearings and disks machined to become a hub? MK4 / TT quattro 256mm disks MK4 2WD / TT Quattro etc callipers Carriers could be MK4 2WD or TT Quattro (different offsets to allow for different hub set ups) Carrier to axle adaptors? Easiest would be a swap back to OE set up? Does the 256mm set up hit on the back of the spokes or the barrels of the speediness?
_Matt_ 32 Posted April 22, 2023 If I removed the spacer (20mm) they would hit. About a 2mm clearance as it is set up - wants 17s on there but I dont want to run with wheels that big.Stock setup would be easier, just thought if I could keep a superior stub axle I would. Probably will go back to stock then.Sent from my SM-G990B2 using Tapatalk

_Matt_ 32 Posted April 22, 2023 It looks different from behind, think I will take it off this afternoon to investigate. Sent from my SM-G990B2 using Tapatalk

Sent from my SM-G990B2 using Tapatalk The grease cap looks like corrado, I suspect behind there is the split pin / top hat / tabbed washer as oe the disk looks sloppy on the hub centre? Polo / Mk4 cap is a round disc affair
