My accelerator is sticking!

Recommended Posts

A few times since buying my G60 about four weeks ago I have noticed that my accelerator pedal sticks a bit. At first I thought it was some sort of auto-choke as the revs didn't really go above 1250 rpm without me touching the pedal.

Anyway, this morning it felt much worse. The revs would go up to 2-3000 rpm without me touching the pedal! When I parked up I noticed that after acceleration, the pedal doesn't come out fully unless I put my foot under it and lift it up!

Any idea how to fix this as its dangerous???!!!!

Thanks.

Just be carefull when putting your foot under the pedal it could unclip the cable. this happend to me on fri in rush hour trafic on the A34. not nice.

that said it only too 5 min to clip it back in but can be dangerouse

Had that on my 16v. There's a small plastic cone at the pedal end of the cable which sits in to a sleeve when you come off the accelerator. After time this cone can get slightly ridged, so instead of sliding back in to place inside the guide, it catches, stops the cable coming 'off' fully and holds your revs up. Change the cable I reckon, relatively cheap.

The only place to get the cable from is VAG and it's about £15... Got one the week before last... GPC may be able to get 'em, but with the postage, I doubt they'll be much cheaper... :|

My throttle is also jamming and I've almost cured it now... I changed the cable which made things 100000 times better, but on my car the actual throttle body itself has worn on the housing where the butterfly spindle sits, so when you use the throttle the whole shaft twists as well as turns, and it's this extra movement that's causing my problems... I don't think this is very common though, and as my car has 250K miles on it, I'm just gonna get a second hand one to sort it out.... :)

I'll take a couple of pics on mine this weekend if no-one else has in the mean time... 8) I've yet to put the underdash back in, so I can still photo all the bits you need to see... 8)
