Heardy 0 Posted August 15, 2004 I've just bought a 1993 VR6 with full vwsh and it's ALLWAYS had mobil 1 engine oil put in when it's been serviced.Should i carry the tradition on and keep on using it or change to synta instead does anyone else use mobil 1 ? Supercharged 2 Posted August 15, 2004 If its had it from the start then I'd keep using it - I take it they were using the 15W-50? and not the 0W-30 as it is way to thin and will start to leak all over the place as the engine gets older...
Mike Edwards 0 Posted August 15, 2004 Liek SUpercharged says - if it's using 0W-30, change to 15W-50 as the former is too thin and will just run out of the engine.
Heardy 0 Posted August 15, 2004 I can't see anything in the service history saying what grade it is.I wouldn't have thought that a mainsteeler would put the wrong grade in would they
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted August 15, 2004 The only 0-30W oil the stealers use is Castrol SLR. Mobil's two main oils are 0-40W and 15/50W Motorsport. I reckon they were using the 0-40W stuff.
Geo 0 Posted August 15, 2004 Call the dealer and ask them. If it's running ok and not losing any oil I would stick with the mobil tbh....
Heardy 0 Posted September 1, 2004 I phoned the guy up and he said he allways had it changed using Mobil 1 0/40  . I have noticed it does tap for a second or 2 when started up from cold so i might try 10/40 instead..
