Scott 0 Posted August 25, 2004 Got myself a new engine mount and thought about doing it whilst doing the suspension next week - whats the quickest way of replacing it? I assume I just need to undo the bolts and jack the engine up off it?

kvwloon 0 Posted August 25, 2004 Can't comment on the VR, but that's how I did it on my 16v, quite easy really.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted August 25, 2004 VR..... 1) Remove lower engine mount cup (3 x 13mm nuts) 2) Undo and remove lower engine mount bolt (6mm allen) 3) Drop lower mount out 4) Remove 15mm bolt from top mount. 5) Check the wiring looms for stretching and detach the PAS pipe bracket from the block. 6) Jack engine up and keep jacking until you can get the mount out. Reverse order for replacement. I would advise you replace both halves of the front mount system as it's the bottom one that gets tired with age and let's go. And we all know what happens after that don't we? :?
Scott 0 Posted August 25, 2004 Cheers Kev 8) I ordered the mount from GSF... its a FEBI item - I assume it comes with both parts as its a seriously big looking beasty.... ??? Its the only mount they list for the VR6?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted August 25, 2004 The upper mount is a beefy bit of swiss cheesed rubber, but the lower half is a small hockey puck shaped thing. They are seperate items. You might need to get the lower one from VAG.
Scott 0 Posted August 25, 2004 Strange that... I have a swiss cheesed  rubber bit at top of mount (it might be two parts not checked properly)... and then a cylinder type bit under this that is quite long.... sounds to me as though its the wrong one
