55k service!

Recommended Posts

I need to get my car serviced at the end of the month... It currently has FVWSH, Is it worth keeping it with VW stamps ??

If so, how much can I expect to pay for a 55k service at VW ?

My advice is...

Go to VW to get the oil changed - this will give you the stamp in the book.

Then get the car booked in for a thorough going over at a VW specialist - I think most people would appreciate that they know these cars better than VW these days.

TBH the only people you're likely to sell your C to now are nutters (sorry 'enthusiasts') like us, which means a proper VW specialist stamp will be worth more than a VW stealer stamp.

However, as jimsG60 says, if you already have a FVWSH then it's nice to have another one. Just get them to do the oil change and tell them explicitly not to touch anything else. Then you can get it serviced by a VW specialst that actually know what they're doing.

As far as cost goes, it's only 55k so not a lot of stuff should need doing. The Servicing Guide should give you an indication of what needs doing though.

All sounds like good advice that! I'll prolly just book it in for an oil change then to get the all important stamp!

They might refuse to stamp the book, if you don't get them to do the service "according to manufacturers specifications". That doesn't mean you should let them do anything other than the annual inspection and oil change service at 55k though (there's no specified service at this mileage, so I have to assume it's just the annual service). Anything else they spot that may be wrong you should very much get done elsewhere!!

Just tell them to do the annual service, should be less than £100 and just get them to do the basic servive and report any problems...

Corrado service intervals are every 10k miles or 12monthly so there isn't really a 55k interval as others have also stated............if its been serviced within the last 12 months then i would just get a local garage or competant mechanic to give it an oil and filter change......then when the 10k or 12months have elapsed get it into either a VW dealer or VW specialist for an annual inspection.......if you do put it to a VW dealer......make sure you supply them the oil

Sorry, yes its been 12 months since it was last serviced... car has only really done 7k miles since.

Why should I supply the Oil ?? I use Quantum silver from VW usually, won't they use the same ?

well my local $tealer used ESSO Ultron at over £10 per litre  when i first had mine serviced as it all depends on which oil that the $tealership buy in bulk..............however if you supply them with the oil you have a greater control on the price as you should be under £5 per litre for synta-silver

I get 5 litres of Silver for £10.95 from my local supplier; even the VW retail is only about £16 which isn't too bad. I use this in my Passat.

For the VR, I use Magnatec, about £12 for 4.5 litres from the Cash and Carry ; any feedback on that particular oil??

Best Wishes

RB
