good day:)bad day:(

at first it was a good day as i picked up my bbs rm's this afternoon from chorley and the seller turned out to be redlee from the forum with his 20vt (nice car by the way)

 

then while on my way to a leaving do on the m53 i went to down shift to overtake a lorry and it wouldnt go into 4th, so i tried 5th again and it wouldnt go in so i slowed down and couldnt get 3rd 2nd or 1st :( so i pulled over as far as i could turned off the engine and then tried putting it into gear which it did easily i then tried starting it in gear with the clutch depressed and it pulled forward, so the clutch is not disengaging :mad:

 

i have recently been noticing the clutch creaking a bit when i pressed it and if i let the clutch out quickly in neutral it was making a sort of slapping noise like something is sticking and then releasing suddenly the feel of the clutch pedal seems ok no different to before though and it has never slipped.

 

does it sound like the clutch, the thrust bearing, or hydraulic :?:

 

i allready have a clutch kit with a new bearing to fit that i ordered last year but didnt fit after being told the clutch was fine by a mechanic

:oops: i knew that too!!

check clutch slave cylider, that went on mine! also check the master cylinder and brake fluid.

any ideas on why its creaking?

insnt probably the WORST word to use when talking aboutthe corrado....... "probably just the door handle....oh no, its the engine gone bang!!!" :lol:

its had a new slave cylinder, and the master looks quite new too, and the pedal dosnt drop to the floor and feels normal :|

 

a mate of mine who has had vw's for years has just told me that he thinks the creaking is the thrust bearing starting to fail as he had this happen on one of his old cars but he cant remember which :|

 

i am going to whip the box off tomorrow and have a poke around i will post pics if i find anything :(

I would have thought the bearing would get quite noisey and not just 'go', I think there is a spring clip that holds the fork in place, maybe worth just taking the slave off first and checking its working ok...

its on its original clutch at 123000 miles so im going to change it tomorrow anyway as i allready have a new one just hope it will solve the problem

my mate said the actual bearing itself looked ok but the metal clips on the sides of the bearing had snapped off on his

just finnished removing the gear box after several hours of swearing and bleeding knuckles, and there is no obvious reason :?

i will change the clutch tomorrow to see if that makes a difference :(

 

the thrust bearing is a little rough but was in the right position, the clutch looks ok and the bearing pressure plate was located correctly so its looking likely that it could be the master cylinder, but i thought if the master cylinder was knackered the pedal would just drop to the floor, any ideas :?:

Surely if it was the master cylinder your brakes wouldn't work either....?

I think you'll find there are 2 master cylinders, ones for the clutch and one for the brakes - otherwise the brake pedal would also be the clutch pedal :wink:

the brakes and clutch use seperate master cylinders but share the same fluid reservoir.

 

its just confusing me now as the clutch pedal feels perfectly normal :mad:

Heh heh ah ok, I knew they used the same slippery stuff, but yeah Supercharged, that would make sense :D

neither the master or slave cylinder are leaking, are there any other ways to find out if they are faulty??

 

if the master cylinder was faulty wouldnt the fluid level not drop as the clutch pedal was pressed?

 

might dismantle the master cylinder tomorrow if the new clutch makes no difference

i took the clutch off this afternoon and allthogh it looked ok on the out side the inside was another matter................

123,000 miles but the clutch surface did not have much wear and the flywheel isnt grooved at all and its the original one.

i posted a while ago about a slack feeling when applying power and lifting off and as all of the damper springs are slack i think i found the problem :lol:

Some mechanics make me laugh,

one of our boys couldnt engadge gears easily,thought it was clutch all ok By dealers.

 

Driver was told your just a driver etc !

 

2 days later after much synchromesh in the bellhousing

 

2 seals and a ceramic clutch down to the rivets and the plate cracked in half it sometimes makes me wonder how they diagnose these things and they said it must have happened after they checked it LOL.

 

500 quid for the clutch yikes !

 

123k on a clutchin a car is ruddy good tbh

a credit to its drivers. :mrgreen:

Im on 500k on me wagon but its starting to show !
