Bean 0 Posted September 19, 2004 Hi guys I have another problem I can hear a noise coming from the left hand side of the engin. any idears what it could be it happens when the car is idleing and at low revs but seems to go away at higher revs. It almost sounds like a scraping noise!! :? Kevin Bacon 5 Posted September 19, 2004 You've got a VR haven't you? Left hand side viewed from the driver's seat, or the front of the car? If the former (gearbox end), is it coming from the top of the engine? Sounds supiciously like the timing chain tensioner. What mileage is it on? Bean 0 Posted September 19, 2004 sorry i always forget that. It is a 93 vr6 with 134K it is coming fro the front left if you are looking at it from the front of the car so O/S. I thought it was the timming chain but then i found that it is on the other side. cheers Dan

Bean 0 Posted September 19, 2004 Ok that sound about right is the v belt tensioner under the cover right at the front above where the water pump is? Do you think it is alright to drive it to work till tomorrow night when it is going to the garage anyway for something else? Is there anythig else worth doing whill I am in there? Cheers Dan
dinkus 10 Posted September 19, 2004 It should be ok if it's just squealing a bit as it's only starting to go, but I'd get it fixed ASAP because if it goes you lose your power steering and more importantly water pump. An engine without water doesn't stay happy for long.
Bean 0 Posted September 20, 2004 Yeah that is what i was worried about but i kept a close eye on the engin and water temp and it seemed to be fine!! Touch wood it will get me to the garage tonight!!!!! Cheers Dan
