  1. Been reading lots of overheating posts as i have the same problwm and think i have everything i need to sort it but just want to check.

Got a new thermostat but do i ned a fan switch aswell. The fan doesnt come on when the car is running and hot but it does come on when i stop the engine; is the switch OK? Is it just that the stuck thermostat not letting the coolant flow so the fan wont come on while its running? The top hose is rock hard and very warm too.

So do i need a fan temp switch too?

  2. UPDATE

Well its looks like we have gone and bent a valve so the head is currently off getting skimmed and fully rebuilt to turn the negative into a postive (although the bank balance will feel th enegative alright!!)

The thing is the guy im using wont port and polish the thing because he cant guarantee it so i was wondering if i should have a go myself?

    Will it make much difference?

  3. Just an update for you guys. I found the thread that you are talking about and that showed us the way however the monkey that had replaced it previously had botched all sorts of things so basically my mechanic friend had to set it up from scratch (something he hadny done since tech!)

So anyhow we eventaully got her up and running and sounding sweet apart from a squeaking noise. After investigating th esqueaking noise for a few minutes the tensioner went bang.............got the engine stopped straight away so hopefully no damage is done. Got a new tensioner today from GSF so will get it running again this evening`.

Keep your fingers crossed for me guys

  4. My friend and i are changed the timing belt on my G60 and we are having a few problems setting the timing back up. The appears to be no mark on thye crank pulley so we dont know how to line it up also is it the 1 dot mark or the 2 dot mark on the cam pulley/

Your help would be much appreciated before we do some damage!

    Thanks

    Robert

  5. Having real trouble getting one of these and was wondering will a power steering pump from any other model work instead. The stealer wants £200 on exchange for a reconditioned one, Euro Car Parts dont do them any more and German Swedish French havny got back to me on 3 seperate ocassions!!!

    What are my options?

  6. been using Synta Silver since i got the car about 6000 miles ago and was about to change the oil but now i havent got enough left as i keep having to top the level up every couple of weeks!

I dont mind doing this as the oil is cheap enough but wanted to make sure that i wasnt doing any further damage.

Can anyone recommend any specialists in Northern Ireland or Belfast to be exact?

  7. thanks for your replies Steve.

Whats involved in replacing the seals and would this be a good time to do anything else while it was in the workshop?

I know it will vary widely from place to place but do you have a ball park figure of what it would cost?

  8. Ive got a '92 G60 that uses about half a litre of oil every 4 weeks or so. There are no leaks and i dont notice toomuch in the way of blue smoke from the exhaust and never go above 3000 rpm until the oil temp gets above 90 degrees. I do however have a short commute to work about 3-4 miles so the car doesnt even really warm up by the time i get there.

I know this means i could probably do with getting the oil valve stem seals done (how much should this cost?), could it be anything else? Does this usage seem very bad or is it just the nature of the beast?

    Thanks in advance guys

  9. Is this just a straight swop for a 2.0 bottom end on the G60? What donor engines would be suitable, what other parts are needed and very roughly how much would it cost?

  10. Sorry for my ignorance but what is the difference with a wideband one? How much more difficult will this be to get fitted, i am anticipating having problems getting it fitted even if its simple and this is sounding more difficult by the minute. Oh yeah nearly forgot its a G60 by the way

  11. Dont think i explained myself properly  , im dego getting the boost gauge just wondered whether i would be better will air/fuel rather than oil temp. If its just as easy will probably go with air / fuel.

  12. Was gonna get a boost gauge and oil temp gauge for the pillar mount that i am planning to install but thought an air / fuel gauge would be more useful; what do you guys think?

Would this be any harder to plumb in than the oil temp gauge?

  13. Am pretty sure that i am loosing some boost at the mo through a slightly cracked boost pipe now i know i can get a set of four Samco ones for the price of the one original from the stealers but have been told the waiting time is excessive if you ever even get your hoses. Just wondering what alternatives there were; does anyone else make a specific kit, can i get the hose i need from somewhere else Euro car parts?

  14. Should have said the pulley is standard, and Darren the name is Robert from Northern Ireland, remember me im the one that sent you half the engine bay still attached to the charger!!!!

The pipe that has a few cracks in it is a flexible rubber hose, but i thought i should be seeing at leat 1800 with a ported charger?

  15. Have had the C now for about two months and have got the charger rebuilt by Darren @ g-werks but after doing about 1200 since the rebuid and running it in very carefully i am still only getting 1700 on the MFA at the redline and the power delivery doesnt seem very smooth approaching the redline. When removing the charger i noticed that one of the boost pipes is a bit cracked (the one that goes to the intercooler i think) is this where my extra boost is going i had assumed that i would get more boost than this with the stage 4 charger. Can anyone shed any light on this for me?
