  1. Thx Davidwort ! I just got myself a set of spline drives from halfords works great apart from cant get the back ones :( Will have to get a long reach 12mm tomorrow. Just out of interest how much do you reckon a garage would charge for a new Headgasket and Cambelt to be fitted? I hope this is worth my effort lol.
  2. I am going to replace the Cam Belt and tensioner. Am I going to need any special tools or is it straight forward? Do I have to remove the other two pulleys and belts to get to it?
  3. AArgh just got to the Head bolts what do I need are they standard "Torx" drive ?
  4. Thx for reply will do. I hope it aint too much of a bitch of a job ! :(
  5. I have just performed a compression test and this is what I get on the Cylinders (Number 1 being the Alternator end) 1= 14.5 bar 2= 13.5 bar 3= 4.5 bar 4= 4.5 bar When testing 3 and 4 a strange loud hollowish sort of "Sucking" sound can be heard. I know this is not good. Can someone please tell me how bad this is or what could be causing it. Is my car FUBAR? The car still starts and runs although extremely badly. Is 1 & 2 very high? Could 3 & 4 be a leak between cylinder (Gasket)?

  7. Driving back from work the other day, my car had just come off the motor way and I stopped to get some cash from the cash point. After starting the car I noticed while driving the power had become really flat and lacked power. I stopped the car for a couple of minutes and after restarting it began to idle rougher. As soon as I pressed on the accelerator pedal there was loud "Banging" from the engine and so I pulled over and called the AA. After checking the coil, leads, plugs, dizzy etc he could not find a fault with any of it. He said that there was a small amount of oil inside the dizzy and that maybe the dizzy was leaking. The wiring loom around the dizzy area was oily. After looking into the dizzy It appeared to be bone dry and he said that there was "some electronics" behind the dizzy that may be filled with oil. After getting my car home I removed the dizzy the next day and to my surprise there is no "electronics " behind it and no evidence of oil leaking. The only bit of electronics is what appears to be some kind of sensor (Hall effect maybe) with three terminals on the other end. Does this sound like a Faulty dizzy? Could a bit of oil on the loom cause this? Anybody have any Ideas? Thx
  8. I have been pulling my hair out with this one. Still not found a cure yet. Been reading others on here with similar problems but none have worked for me. I have tried disconnecting both mirror control switches changed the door switches for new ones still the same. The window control unit looks fine and the connections are clean. Windows will only work with the door open (drivers side). If I press the door switch in with the door open at any angle the windows do not work. Passenger side open or closed makes no difference. If I put fuse 14 back in everything works fine then blows after a few uses leading to the above condition. Windows close up fine with the alarm closure. All wiring in the doors and hinge part is sound. Anyone have any Ideas what it may be. A friend of mine is a VW mechanic and reckons it is the alarm module (Autowatch 160rl ) i think. But I cant see why this would have anything to do with fuse 14 (reverse lights) blowing. Mind you this problem only started after I had my alarm fitted.
  9. Could someone please tell me where they are located I have searched and cannot find the answer. I got a 93 16v later facelift.
  10. I am in a similar situation. But after driving a few cars I realise just how good my C is. I will also miss having other C owners flashing me or people asking "What is that?" and people always commenting on how nice it looks. If I ever change it would have to be a "big" step up for something like a Porsche or something else with loads of power and rear wheel drive. Although I have always fancied an Audi s4 cabriolet. It would be nice to keep the C as a second car in an ideal world !
  11. If i had one to switch it with I would Cazza. Just noticed your sig. I am a Liverpool fan so I guess the F.A. Cup fnal didn`t help much :-P
  12. Therapor, thx for replys. I took the door card off no sign of trouble. Though the windows will work with the door open. I suspect the probs is a wire somewhere between the reversing lights and the fuse box. Your comment about the wire caught up at the gearstick.......mmm I just got an inkling your probably pointing me in the right direction. Anyway when I get the time I will investigate and let you know my findings.
  13. Hi I got this problem also. Check your number 14 fuse and let me know if it has blown.
  14. Good to know its just not my car playing up  Anyway if i replace the fuse it lasts about a day then blows again ! Let us know how you get on ...
