    track rod end setup

the old one wasn't fixed so it must have been done before i got the car, i'm just trying to understand why vw say it should be at a fixed length and what would be the adverse affects adjusting the left track rod, if it's not important to do why do vw say so in the bently manual

    track rod end setup

i know that setting the tracking is in effect setting the track rod to the correct length but the bently manual says not to adjust the left hand side and pre-set it to the correct lenght, if the track rod was not set to this lenght when fitted and then adjusted afterwards will it be at the right lenght as it is impossible to measure on the car, i'm trying to get an idea of how important it is to set it to the right lenght as i don't want to cause any problems in the future

    track rod end setup

sorry just realised i posted this in the wrong section
  5. i've just had new track rod ends, wheel bearings and bottom ball joints fitted by my local indepenent vw garage. when i got the car back it pulled badly to the left so i took it back and it turns out that my garage put the new track rod end on without setting it to the correct length as the bently manual states, also my garage had the tracking set by selecta tyres who adjusted it on both sides not just on the right . neither my garage or selcta tyres have heard of setting the track rod end to the correct length, does anybody know if it is important to set the length and what is the reason for this? the tracking has been adjusted again by selcta and it drives ok. i don't want to go back to my garage and kick up a big fuss but i want my car doing right any help would be much appreciated

    coilover set up probs

Yes i have changed the top mounts i also changed all the front and rear bush's, power flex at the front oem at the back as i have heard harder bush's at the rear can make the ride harsh. my local vw garage who i have used for many years did all the work so i know it has all been done right, i only set up the coilovers myself to save some money, One thing i did think of is that i replaced the rear top mounts for power flex top mounts and oem one's on the front could this make a big difference to the harshness of the ride??
  7. Had the same prob on my c, turned out to be the interior door handle operating rod was rattling against the door There should be a small piece of foam stuck to the door to stop it touching, i only spoted this by accident one day when i was to lazy to put the door card back and saw it rattling.
  8. The strutt tops are supposed to turn, they have a small bearing in the top to allow this. As for pulling to the left you may just need the tracking checked/adjusted

    coilover set up probs

thanks for the replies guys :) i have taken the car for a test drive hoping to would settle it didn't seem to make much difference and i still couldn't get the right height, maybe i'm being to accurate with the height and it doesn't need to exactly the same, but the car doesn't drive well at all  if it drove great i wouldn't be that bothered about a small difference in height. iv'e found a guy in northampton who is going to check the camber and tracking on saturday and also set up my coilovers properly as i can't drive it like this for long,

  11. i'm having a nightmare setting up my car, just fitted fk highsport coilovers and i can't seem to get the right ride height, i'm going for 605 front 615 rear measuring from the floor to the center of the wheel arch, i can get the fronts set at the same measurement each side but i can't get the back the same hight, the closest i can get is 610 nearside 620 offside, the strange thing is the position of the addjusting ring on the shock is 50mm lower on the offside than the nearside but the car is sitting 10mm higher??? is it possible one of the shocks is wrong? anybody got any ideas what is going on as this is driving me mad!! also the car drives like s**t really harsh ride and doesn't hold the road well at all it was better with standard setup
