  1. Hi Mate,

I had a go at this myself a couple of years ago and if i can do it anyone who knows how to hold a spanner the right way can do too

At the front i only replaced discs and pads though as the calipers were working fine but at the rear i replaced the discs and the bearings which sit inside the discs as they are pretty cheap to replace and easier to fit new ones than remove the old one's anyway, also new rear pads too!

I have a tool made by sykes pickevant? which winds back the pistons on the rear which makes the job a doddle, i also use it on the fronts too and use the old pad as a surface to press the piston back on those as well.

The rear brakes were seized too, the parts where the actual caliper slides on the caliper carrier where you need to use a spanner to stop it spinning as you bolt everything back together. One was rusted into the carrier solid so I had to replace the carrier bit with one from a scrap yard, to prevent this happening again i removed all of the slider posts/studs and really cleaned them up to remove all the rust as they had almost seized up too so lots of grease when they went back together and they move as smooth as silk now, but bear in mind mine doesn't see winter either :)

I then bought one of those easi bleed kits which uses pressure from an inflated tyre to push new fluid through, took about 20 mins for this little job and i didn't even remove the wheels as i have skinny arms to get in there while the car is on all four wheels, simply use some old clear pipe pushed onto the bleed nipple and a jar to catch the old fluid. My drive is dead flat too if that helps.

All parts were standard stuff from the dealers too.

    Enjoy!

    Kip.

I need to speak to you Martin.. think my insurance is up at the end of Feb!

Jim, try Chris Knott insurance too! 0800 9172274 always pretty good for me and judith but as said i guess it can depend on everyones own circumstances :?

If you're a club member you can get even more discount, just a thought in case you haven't already tried them.

  3. I have been painting my C. Thought you might like to see how I got on.

I know others have done it a while ago but I've only got round to it in the last week or so.

Edit: I have an interview myself with a rather large car manufacturer next Thursday. Not saying too much in case I jinx it but lets just say if I get it I'll be made up. :D

Best of lick for that then fella! :?

  7. Hmmm kinda reminds me of when i bought mine 8 years ago, was still at home at 28 years old and had 10k in the bank.

I should have done the sensible thing and got on the property ladder which was a long time before they shot up by the way.

But instead i spent £18'000 on a 3 year old VW from a main dealers

To say dad hit the roof was an understatement, mum was in tears and it was as if i had committed a major crime. We didn't talk for almost a week which is quite hard when you're living with them. things improved a little when i started to come home with a trophy or two from doing concours competitions at VW shows. As if they had a little respect for the lump of metal as they called it,

I missed the boat regarding the property ladder which in hind sight was very stupid as i couldn't afford the car and a mortgage.

I now rent a place and my folks have totally accepted the fact that i like this stupid hobby and we get on as a family should, but its taken some time for them to understand this.

And if i had sold it when they wanted me to i would never have met judith (Butterfly) we have been together over 2 years now and she recently moved in with me too, My folks think she's come down from venus or something and reckon I''m very lucky.

So they're glad i didn't sell it really.

All i can add is that parents really only want whats best for their children but in the same breath thay dont have a clue what this car thing is all about, we are what we are no matter what Corrado you own.

Tough it out fella and they'll quit nagging you soon.

Sorry about the Mills and Boon section above but it buttoned the lips of parents big time. :)

  8. Like mine lots, cost £500 from DVLA all in and the one it replaced was N85 MGF which was on the car when i bought it by the way was sold on for £385 :) so all together with fees and retention for it I paid just £225 for what is the ultimate plate for me.

Even my dad was impressed and thats sayin something Lol!

  9. GREEDY! Lol! thought it looked like Norev, I have a couple of their models now mainly tour de france vehicles as i'm a roadie at heart and have recently discovered that they do hundreds of different ones! Hurray! so am starting a collection :)

Will have to get an IROC too though.

Rude not to, but who do you use for Norev models?
