I have been for a look today, drivers side sill has bad corrosion on end where it meets rear arch, abs light is on, body has had a bad respray..so much so that u can see the line around the rubbing strips where they just masked them off. scratches to wings and doors have just been sprayed over so u can see where the paint dips in. engine was lovely though lol. I wouldnt pay £2000 nevermind £3200. sooo the search continues

yes thats true, pictures can hiding a multitude of sins can't they. i will go for a look tommorow and let you guys know the verdict. fingers crossed. thank you for all your help. Tris

It has put my mind at rest about the coilpack as a mate was convinced it was supposed to be dizzy. one thing, i know the timing chain discussion is a can of worms but if they have not been done how much of a bargaining tool is that? the owner says there is a receipt for £1700 that lists new clutch but either it took 50 hours labour or something else was done at the same time..im thinkign it makes sense to inspect and if needs be do the chain guides at the same time.

I got homefrom the stables this morning to find a nasty noise coming from under the bonnet. At first i thought the charger had self destructed but on further examination the nut and washer were missing from the alternator pulley and the metal fan was grating against the alternator housing. Does anyone know the nut size on the pulley and a torque setting? Also its a long shot but does anyone know if all the vw alternators share the same size nut on the pulley? I'm off to the scrap yard in the morning to try and find a replacement as i need the car for work monday. Any help would be fantastic.

ahh i see, i have no idea what the jabba 68mm pulleys look like so when i looked at mine and saw a tarnished alloy? pulley i thought i better measure to see if it is actually 68mm.

Pulley sizes, I'm right in thinking when you get a smaller pulley it is actually the one connected to the charger the you replace? i just meeasured mine end to end and its around 74mm. I have a reciept for a 68mm pulley. am i missing something here. sorry for the novice question

I noticed there was a little bit of oil around the oil feed bolt where it bolts to the charger and it had sprayed the back of the grill and as the oil feed looks brand new i thought i bet the bolt is loose...took it out to clean the threads before i just tried tightening it..checked the washers and put it back in..tightening with a small 13mm spanner with 1 fingers worth of pressure and the damn thing snapped! For a second my wallet got a sharp pain but luckily the threaded bit stuck in the charger was easy to remove. Just ordered a new bolt and copper washers from the stealers £1.55. So the point of this long post is...what is the torque setting for this bolt as i don't want to make the same mistake twice!
