  1. I went from a Corrado to a 964. Brilliant and amazing and I wish I had never sold it. Came back to a Corrado and 24v'd it and I found that I hadn't really ever gotten over that Porsche. Utterly amazing.

     

    It was air-cooled and they are far cooler than the modern water cooled stuff!


  2. Thanks guys, I had a large amount of interest but it went to somebody who isn't on the forum regularly. I do hope that it stays on here though so that I can see it develop. I'm confident it has gone to a good home, time will tell!

     

    I won't be going far, this is a great forum with a fantastic atmosphere which is difficult to find elsewhere.

     

    My wife has just bought a new A3 (collect it Tues!) and the audi-sport.net forum is generally full of self centred and opinionated middle aged men who act like spoilt children arguing over nothing generally.

     

    I've replaced the Corrado with a derv 1 series F21 BMW and the baby-bmw.net forum isn't particularly stimulating.

     

    I shall remain here for the banter. There are some really good guys on here who have turned into good friends. Oh and in the interest of fairness. There are a few douches too :-P

    A change in lifestyle means that I unfortunately need to move on with the Corrado.

     

    It has had a complete mechanical rebuild in the last 10k which included stripped and coated subframes and wishbones, rear axles and all other running gear. New bearing all around and a complete brake system overhaul.

     

    The brake system overhaul replaced the unreliable rear bias valve with a more reliable 4 channel ABS setup with new pipework throughout. It has 312mm brake discs and braided lines throughout but the pads are not fantastic. They have a bit of a poor initial bite but work fantastically otherwise. The car also has the larger and more powerful Mk4 Golf GTi servo and master cylinder.

     

    It has had new OEM bushes everywhere. The only uprated bush is the front wishbone rear bush which has come from the Mk4 Golf R32 platform.

     

    It has had a 24v conversion carried out which runs completely reliably and efficiently. I regularly obtain 450 miles from a tank. The conversion was made to look and operate in a completely OEM manner and doesn't display any strange quirks that some conversions do. Part of the conversion included fitting cruise control which works in exactly the same way in which it would have if it were still fitted to the donor car. The engine has done approx 125k I believe. The chains do rattle a touch but the AUE engine does not suffer from the same chain issues that the R32 engine was famous for. A brand new clutch was fitted during the conversion.

     

    The standard heater controls have been replaced with the Climate control from a Mk4 Golf GTi and works perfectly. The only part that doesn't work is the aircon as that was never fitted during the conversion but could be if the new owner fancies a project.

     

    The interior is pretty much perfect and it had a new old stock steering wheel fitted during the conversion.

     

    The bad bits and the reason for the price:

     

    The mechanics are spot on but the bodywork on this car is definitely letting the car down. There is no rust apart from a small bit on some of the arches, but they are really small. A few mm's across.

     

    What lets it down is the paintwork. It's showing its 202k miles badly. You could replace the front wings but the car would need a respray ideally. I won't try and butter this up as something it is not.

     

    I never really bothered about the paintwork as I enjoyed the car knowing I didn't have to worry about another stonechip.

    The price is firm at ?1500. It's worth more in pieces if you are that way inclined but I will not budge on price or swap for another project. I have been as honest as to the condition. It's 202k miles old.

     

    Great car, tatty paint, nice project for someone with access to a paintshop.

     

    The price is a side effect of using Panjo. ?1500 firm.

  4. It's a done deal I'm afraid Sean, I've got a big change in circumstances coming my way over the next few months so this is the right thing for me to do at this time. I don't have the standard suspension unfortunately, I've not got the space to store it either which is a bit of a shame.

     

    Luckily I've been quite thrifty with finding stuff, doing deals for favours and generally keeping the project cheap so I won't be out of pocket for the enjoyment I've had out of it for the last 18 months.


  5. I've been using Zak as a go between as he organised the initial group buy. I must say that he has been spot on but the absolute lack of any form of customer care from Eibach has been disgusting. I have been in e-mail contact with Eibach Germany who told me to get in contact with Eibach UK. Eibach UK won't help me as I bought it through the GB. They did helpfully tell me that they know there is a problem with some Corrados and that there is an alternative spring. They aren't Eibach Germany though so won't help me.


  6. Well another month has gone by an Eibach have still not sorted out my springs. I was told that they had no alternate springs for me and that they were due to go into production at the end of July. That has come and gone and i'm still without the alternate springs.

     

    Eibach, if you read this, which I doubt you do given your animosity towards your customers, then you should be ashamed of yourselves. I will never buy another Eibach product and I will definitely not recommend that others would either.

     

    I hardly drive the car anymore due to the ride quality and the fear that I am trashing my shocks and to be honest I just want to sell the bloody car on now. I've been left with a very sour taste after this little exercise.


  7. Hi Sean. Just read your post regarding the B12 issues. We both bought from the same group buy but I have not got round to fitting yet. Do you know if the other chap who bought at the same Time has had issues also?

    Sorry Edd, I've got no idea at all. I know that Zak has been helpful but that doesn't mask my anger at the situation.

     

    Cheers Kev, it was a pig to bleed and I've had to rebleed it twice more. Initial bite is poor but I put that down to the pads themselves. A firm shove and it will stop you very very well indeed. New pads are on my list to see if that helps. I'm thinking of fitting oe pads next.


  8. Some corrados don't sit well on b12s. Mine included. I've been having a 3 month battle with Eibach to send me out the correct springs and I'm currently waiting on a second replacement set to cure the rears sitting 60mm low instead of the 25. Fronts are fine though.

     

    I've been left so disappointed with the ride and the general frustration and knowledge that my shocks are being trashed by the increased wear that the thought to sell up has been strong at times.

     

    I swear to him upstairs that I will never touch another Eibach product so long as I walk this planet based on the total lack of customer service and blatant disregard for a customer who has been given the wrong product by their own admission. It's a known fault.

     

    I can only advise that anyone thinking of B12s be very careful. Shame really as the products are normally pretty high quality, but not so on this occasion.


  9. You added another fuel cell in the boot or something!? That's better than my diesel daily!

     

    Ha! Not so much, I guess I must be a smooth driver, I hardly hang around most of the time! Driving in anticipation of the road conditions and a 24v running in fine tune must be a good combination. I think my worst over a tank has been 31mpg. I usually hit between 420 and 450 on a tank.
