  1. At this point I'd probably replace the radiator as even if you get it to seal for now, chances are if you end up getting the car really hot in traffic one day, you're sitting on a bit of a time bomb in terms of not knowing good that seal really is.

  2. Well.. it's a lot quieter than it used to be. I'm still a moderator but not very active these days as no longer an owner. Tempest is not active on here at all but still a MK1 Scirocco and Corrado owner :)

Unfortunately terrible news is that Bally passed away last year. Still finding it hard to believe myself :( I'm friends with all the others on Facebook but they've all variously moved on from Corrado ownership sadly.

  3. Facebook does indeed seem to have killed a lot of forums, despite the fact that Facebook is absolutely terrible for this kind of community.. pinned posts are a nightmare, people posting the same questions endlessly is a pain in the backside, etc etc. Forums are better in simply every way, so we can only hope that Toby does keep this place going for as long as possible.

  4. Disappointing indeed. I'll drop him a PM and try nudge him along. To be fair some people are just a bit crap at getting stuff posted... Matt (Red Borbet) was very patient waiting several weeks for me to post an air intake pipe for his 5 series.. I just kept forgetting, putting it off, etc.. wasn't deliberate.. was just being crap. Either way I'll PM petemcr and see what's going on. Cheers.

  5. In my case I'm thinking smaller pieces rather than large stuff, Goldie.. large scale stuff may be possible but I'd rather start with smaller things if possible and feel out what options there are.

Bits for the sunroof are a good shout... I know there's a few pieces which commonly fail.. does anyone have broken bits left over from sunroof repairs?

  6. These are all great ideas folks - thanks! Martin - if you're happy to loan me a few choice pieces I'd be more than happy to investigate the feasibility of getting them scanned / mapped. I'd of course send them back to you as soon as I was done with them?

I was fairly sure I still had some fuse box cover trim clips but be damned if I can find them.

  7. I've already got a small project in mind for BMW E39 owners. There's a little plastic spring clip which is used to secure the air lines onto the rear air-springs as fitted to the touring / estate models. On 20+ year old cars, it's brittle and snaps easily if you need to replace the air spring and of course BMW do not sell them individually.. you have to buy them along with the rest of the air reservoir which costs a small fortune.

But really keen to hear if there's any other Corrado projects which would be suitable :)

  8. Hey folks..

Not been on here much lately but do try and keep my toe in the water with the forum / club where possible.

A potentially new / exciting opportunity has opened up where I work to dabble with another 3D modelling / scanning project and my mind immediately turned to more reproduction Corrado things. As many of you know, I undertook a project a few years ago to reproduce the little screw covers for the speedo clocks and have gone on to sell many of those, but that project was pretty drawn out as it involved engaging a design company to do the 3D scanning work and then finding another company to 3D print the pieces.

This opportunity might allow me to do the 3D scanning / modelling work a bit more in house which would open up possibilities for doing some other projects going forward.

My question I guess is, are there any plastic trim pieces which are currently unavailable which folks would really like to see, which would be fairly simple / basic to clone? I don't want to get too ambitious but maybe if we get something out of this it might open the door for further / more complicated projects. Even metal pieces might be feasible so.. obsolete / unusual shaped nuts and bolts, etc etc.

    So folks.. any suggestions?

I want to suffix that lot by saying I'm not looking to do this as a money making venture; much like the trim clips, it's intended to be a cost neutral exercise as a favour to other owners, not a project to line my pockets.

    Thanks.

  9. This will sent the sun in....

Airco was never an option on a corrado, it was retro fit afterwards... I had mine fitted at a porker dealer in 1996

Well, not for RHD cars.. :( LHD markets got air conditioning though :(

  10. I'm active on a large Facebook group for the BMW E39 5 Series, and honestly Facebook utterly SUCKS as a mechanism for an owners club discussion group.

So far as I'm aware.. primarily because you can't search or easily pin posts, and of course you can't segregate content off into seperate sub sections. It's basically just one big feed of people posting up the same questions ALL THE TIME. If you want to go back through old content to try and find answers you've previously given, it's virtually impossible. Additionally the Facebook algorithm will just arbitratily decide which content it wants to show you.. you can't simply do like most forums and say "Show me everything since I was last here" - meaning I've regularly missed interesting discussions and event information simply because I didn't happen to check Facebook at the right time, and their algorithm decided I didn't need to see it. It's a total crock.

Forum software is a million times better for this kind of thing. The only thing Facebook is arguably good for is quickly getting large numbers of people to sign up, mostly because so many people are on it, and the process to join is a couple of clicks at most.

Personally for me, the primary source of content should be a web site and a forum. The Facebook page should be used to promote or post highlights from the forum / website. If people can't be arsed to sign up on the forum to discuss things further, then it's their loss.

  11. There's plenty of foam gaskets used to seal the various ducts together, etc which have long since gone dry or have perished. It's worth having a good look if you can get your hands on a copy of ETKA and check out the various diagrams to see if you can find / order some of them.

The other thing to bear in mind is, if your heater matrix has already blown, then the foam used on the flaps within the airbox may have turned to dust. If you do a search you should find other folks who've gone through this, and the material they used to replace it.
