Goodwood charity track day Tuesday August 30th. This track day is to help raise money, for the Chanctonbury Community Playscheme. Charity number 284353. http://www.ccps-sussex.org DRIVERS There is a limit of 45 cars on the day, the cost being £150 per car with payment required in advance. There can be no refunds of monies once booked. NOTE: Goodwood has strict noise regulations which will allow only cars within a limit of 98db static testing and a 96db drive by limit. If you have any concerns over your cars noise levels, please check before signing up, as money cannot be refunded if your car does not pass the sound checks. Signing in time and pre track day noise tests will be at 7.30-8.30, with track time starting at 9am. As this is a charity day, you must be willing to take passengers out who will be donating towards the charity. During the last 2 charity days we have done, we had around 60 passengers spread between all the cars during the day and added to the great feel of the day. PASSENGER RUNS If you would like to be a passenger in any of the cars doing the track day, all you need to do is come along to Goodwood race circuit between 10.00-12.00 and 1.00-4.00 on Tuesday August 30th. Within an area by the pit lane, you must sign an indemnity form, pay £20 for a track session (15-20 minutes typically) and then chose a car you wish to go out in (allowing for booking times). NOTE: Passengers must be over 4 foot 6 in height (1.4 metres). NOTE: All passengers and drivers must be wearing trousers and have there arms fully covered. Helmets will be available on the day for paying passengers. Did the cambelt on my A4 back at the beginning of December, whole front of the car off job, all belts replaced (x4) and water pump/thermostat at the same time, as John explained that you might as well do it at the same time, as you are in the area and everything is exposed. Saves a big job later on. Very interesting seeing the procedure done! Not a closed workshop like dome places. Would highly recomend.

You could try jumping it from another car, but make sure that you have some leads with surge protectors in them to protect the electrics in your car. Don't want a dead MFA etc do we.... If that works then see about charging the battery up properly, either by using a battery conditioner, there are a number on the market, to get the battery charged up properly. If the battery keeps going down rapidly, then you have either got a light left on somewhere (boot maybe?) or the alarm has a problem and is draining the battery on your behalf. In which case a new alarm, or just an immobiliser would be the answer. I guess from the flag you are based in Scotland, otherwise if you were in the deep south I would recomend that you speak to Andy Bryant (TrimWizard), who knows about these things, and is also known to the forum, and used to have a lovely silver VR C and a Mk2 GTI. What problems with Cobra alarms and Corrados was that? Woody has one on his C and AFAIK it is working fine!

If you want to go down the megs route then get hold of some #83 DACP (Dual Action Cleaner Polish) which is similar to some of the stuff in the 1-2-3 kit I believe, then also some #80 Speed Glaze to add that extra bit of shine if you like, followed by some wax, P21S in the case of the car that I used it on (flat black). try http://www.cleanandshiny.co.uk HTH

It doesn't matter if you have a plain colour, newer colour with clearcoat or metallic (always laquered/clearcoat), then will all work well on all the finishes. Megs (retail range) can be bought in most Halfords and other car accessory type shops, P21S, Swissol, Zymol and Megs Pro/Valet (Mirror Finish) range can be bought online.

If one was new in feb, then it souinds ike a warranty claim to me. If they seize then that should only be after a good number of years. The Mk4 calipers (alloy ones) are not without their problems either, as the alloy get affected by road salt quite badly and corrode up, sometimes necessitating an even earlier caliper change.

Well, it is illegal to have them on if it isn't foggy.....and they are quite dazzling as well.

Remember that on the newer cars you are only polishing/cleaning the clearcoat paint layer and this is what give the shine, not the actual paint underneath. If the paint surface is just a bit hazy, as if it has a waxy layer on it, then just using some paint cleaner (not a polish) should be OK, followed by some wax. Sometime the use of the AG SRP can build up a cloudy later especially on darker coloured cars. This can be removed with a paint cleaner, and the gloss restored. Paint Cleaner can be from P21S, Swissol, Zymol, Megs or whereever. It will have high cleaning properties, low abrasive, and maybe gloss enhancing. Also I would advise against the use of a sponge, as once you get grit into a sponge you will not remove it. Use a wash mit or a wash cloth to wash your car with, then throw it into the washing machine afterwards. Likewise to dry the car, use a blade (HydraFlexi is the best) and a m/f drying towel, or just a couple of drying towels, and again throw them in the wash afterwards.
