  1. Storms in vgc+ are getting rare now and will attract a premium over a non limited edition VR, therefore breaking a perfectly good one should only be the very last resort, once all of the other options have been exhausted.

I agree with delfinis38 that breaking a car must take a serious amount of work hours in labour, time and effort.

  2. Nooo please don't break another Storm.

Source some parts and put it back to standard or with a few choice mods. and save it from being broken up for parts.

Surely you'd get good money for all those quality modified parts if sold as job lots?

There's definately a niche market for seriously sorted, modified vdubs / Corrados, that Blackberry VR turbo 4x4 sold pretty quickly on here a while back for strong money, can't remember his forum name now! It's worth trying to sell it as is, or put it back close to standard imo.

Ultimately it's your decision though mate, best of luck with it all anyway.

  3. They were standard factory fit items but alot of Corrados no longer have them fitted due to the air guides or ducts being broken, removed or lost over the years and a few radiators being replaced per car. The UK VW dealers describe them as air guides on the ETKA system.

It's a similar story with the under engine corner plastic air guides too, I did find a pair of those on here off a late 8v car, again, hard to find, rare bits of plastic!

Don't wait too long to find a set though, as brand new VW plastic trim Corrado parts in the UK are becoming obsolete pretty quickly these days, if I were you I'd call your local VW dealer and get a price and availability. If obsolete then try VWclassicparts.de in Germany or VW Heritage / Classic Parts in the UK.

Or also try VW Vortex forum in the US or the VR6 owners club forum in the UK. Good luck!

I called VW a couple of weeks ago to get a price on a late VR6 wheel hub with ABS rotor, drivers side front, now obsolete and back order only from Germany!

Although these may now be back in UK stock, it's a parts lottery sometimes.

Check the breaking section on here too, you might get lucky.

  4. Yep it's sad as more and more get broken up for parts every week and the number of good condition road worthy Corrados keeps going into free fall until only the strongest will survive! I don't mind at all though, it's always great when people do a double take and have a good old stare!

It is amazing that even the youngest cars are now almost 20 years old.

  5. Thanks Andy, yep put my name down for it, getting the car back later this week and therefore several nice long drives are over due!

Real shame I couldn't make it to National Day in my C, but looking forward to the Berkeley Castle event now, lets hope for good weather.

This will be my first Berkeley event, looks like a relaxing, chilled out VW scene in a very nice setting. Anyone else up for this one?

Looking forward to catching up with the Glos. crew soon, lots to tell about my not so simple HG replacement and head rebuild saga!

Bugger: just realised this weekend clashes with the Goodwood Revival meeting which I'm already going too, sorry Andy you'll have to remove my name from the list please, shame it's not a different weekend, I was looking forward to Berkeley Castle.

Oh well, maybe we could arrange a Glos. meet up one weekend in Aug/Sep, for a cruise and a meal? Or do a Pistonheads gate crasher again at AV8 Kemble airport!?

Are any of you guys thinking of coming to the VR6OC National Day at Brooklands in Oct? I'm tempted, it looks good and would be great to get a group of Corrados there.

  6. Hi Wompa,

You might get lucky finding a second hand pair of these Radiator air guides but they are extremely rare, I've been looking for a while and no luck.

Last year they were still available from VW dealers but they're very expensive pieces of plastic!

Most of them have been cracked, split, broken or lost over the years, you may have to buy genuine brand new parts in Sweden.

    Good luck mate.

    Cheers,

    Phil

  7. Yep I'll take it please Ben, it looks in great condition.

Does it have all the original wiring and connectors on the back of the head unit and does it also come with the cables for the CD autochanger or are you leaving them in the car? It would be good if they came with the system if this is possible.

Many thanks Craigowl, I've been looking for a nice period Hi-Fi for my Storm for a while now.

By the way, who's the pretty lady in your User profile pic.?

Ben I might be able to collect, it's about time I went for a proper drive anyway!

    Cheers,

    Phil

  8. Have you still got the polished 2.8 inlet manifold for sale and if so what year Golf is it originally from please?

Would it be a straight bolt on fit to a late 97 - 98 year Golf 2.8 engine, including the rocker cover and engine top plastics, no mods. required?

If it's still for sale then are you going to National Day?

    Cheers

  9. Does anyone know for certain what the bore sizes are in mm for a 2.8 and 2.9 VR6 please?

What does the Bentley manual say for the 2.8 and does it show a diagram of a Simplex top chain? if anyone's got a copy of their manual handy.

  10. Many thanks for the advice guys.

I will check my bore sizes, what should they be?:

    AAA 2.8: 81.0mm or 81.5mm, piston stroke 90.0mm

    ABV 2.9: 82.0mm or 82.5mm, piston stroke 90.0mm

So it would seem then that all 2.9 ABV engines should have a Duplex upper and Simplex lower chain fitted from new and that late 2.8 AAA from 97/98 onwards had a Simplex top chain.

    Cheers

  11. Many thanks dr_mat for the info.

My Storm's engine had the chains replaced by the previous owner but it appears to have a Simplex upper chain which is weird.

So maybe some of the late Corrado VR's had 2x Simplex chains fitted from new, I need to check my bore diameters or the head gasket to confirm if it's a 2.9, is it 82.5mm for the 2.9 or 81.5mm for the 2.8?

My head gasket's currently being replaced and my head serviced and refurbished when this issue came to light, the new genuine 2.9 HG fitted just fine.

I've got no indication from the previous owner or the service history that my engine's been replaced.

  12. Hi all,

I'm trying to find out what type of upper and lower timing chains were originally fitted to 2.9 VR engines and if there are any differences or variations? I was under the impression that all 2.9's have a Simplex single width lower chain and a Duplex double width upper chain, although some forum members have said they've seen Simplex upper chains on a 2.9 VR.

Taking this a step further, does anyone know how the chains vary from an early 2.8. AAA or 2.9 ABV engine, through to late 2.9 or Mk3 Golf 2.8's?

I've also heard that late VR 2.8 engines had 2x Simplex chains, post Corrado, maybe from '97 onwards, due to wear issues with the Duplex system / guides / tensioners.

    Cheers

  13. PM sent.

I'll take the late VR fog light switches and heated rear window switches please - how much are they?

You've received my payment for the PCV valve, if it's easier then send the switches along with the PCV, I don't mind waiting until Monday before you post them.

Let me know and then I'll send payment for the switches.

I'll also take the 288 front brake setup, please reserve them for me until you've removed the Miltek cat back and let me know it's condition.

    Many thanks.

  14. Exactly Chris, RS301's can command serious money, but originality is key. It would appear that this set has been split then if they're 8" wide instead of 7.5".

The quality of the refit and refurb. are important and also who carried out the work?

Also the pic. of the car shows centre caps fitted but the 1 wheel pic. does not, are they included, genuine caps?

Anyway shouldn't this be in the Ebay section?

  15. I agree with Bristol Baron, the 2 photo's in the advert are average and could be much better, showing close ups of each wheel would help with your sale.

Yes they're a rare set of alloys but the set that OSV sold a while ago were in a superior condition compared to these.

Serious buyers want to see quality close up pics. and a detailed description, especially of any damage or wear.

Anyway, good luck with the sale.
