  1. Recently got the car back after putting into a mechanic for brake master cylinder replacement. It was in for a few weeks as it turns out that they seem to be unobtainable, so instead they sent it off for rebuild which happily cured the problem... unfortunately though before putting the car into daily use I charged and tested the battery after finding it was flat and the result was not at all good (holding about 30% charge) I bought a new one from Shield in Bishop's Stortford for just under £60. The previous one was only 3 years old but I guess has not liked being sat around unused. I also found two Mk2 Polo side repeaters in 'stock' which fit the Corrado, not quite the same colour but better than the white ones that were on there.
  2. Thanks for the replies Not tried disconnecting the ABS (there were no fault codes) should I just pull off the multiplug at the front of the unit? I thought master cylinder next but, as DriverVR6 says, not good to replace any more parts than I have done so already when not sure of the cause... What is supply like on master cylinders? I searched the forum quite a bit before posting this and people seem to be talking about difficulty getting them?
  3. Anyone help on this??
  4. Rewinding a couple of weeks, starting with the good, had two new tyres fitted at the back. I like Toyos for a mid-range price. Then the bad, the remote fob packed up had to get a taxi home for the spare key... And finally the ugly, the brakes started to stick on again so I'm thinking the callipers weren't the problem. So far two garages can't diagnose what's wrong. I put a post in the tech section if anyone can help...
  5. Can anyone help diagnose my faulty brakes... not had the car long and it has been a nightmare. My front brakes are sticking on to the point where the brakes smoke and I can hardly drive it anywhere. The symptoms can be more severe at some times than others; on occasions I can get a few miles no problem then sometimes the pedal firms up and then I know its going to get sticky. I replaced both front callipers and switched from braided hoses to rubber ones with no difference. I took it to a local garage who didn't know what the problem was, I then took it to a specialist who pressure bled the system, checked ABS valves (all OK) and checked the calliper pistons. They too did not know what the problem was but suggested it could be a faulty ABS unit. Any ideas?
  6. Might see you around as I am just North west of Braintree. Matt Unless it's after dark...
  7. Brilliant loads of Essex Corrados. I will be keeping a lookout for you all on the roads. I'm in Little Canfield and kettle is always on if anyone wants to come and take a look. James153 where do you work? I had a massive row with my previous garage so am also on the lookout for a good mechanic. I'll have a crack at some things but always need a plan B. I've put another thread in the members section with a couple more photos. Tim
  8. Nice one will look into it
  9. ^^ thanks do those bulbs need a wiring upgrade or are they the same wattage? I think you are right on both, the car came on steels according to the spec sticker. There is a £900 invoice in the file for TSW evos but they are long gone too. I didn't realise the side repeaters were aftermarket but whatever they were they have gone very cloudy.
  10. Thanks for the welcome, that was quick! I can leave that kind of character all the same... but back on the road today so can't complain if it stays that way.
  11. I'm new to Corrados so starting from the beginning, this used to be my daily drive until it rotted out: So off it went to the scrapyard and I needed a new car as I was commuting on this: But the novelty quickly wore off and the girls in the office were complaining about the smell so after looking at and rejecting a MG TF and Land Rover Defender I bought this: It is a 2.0 16v in Aqua blue, BBS wheels and black leather. Unfortunately it had been standing for about six months and the O/S calliper was stuck on so a new one was ordered and fitted. I checked the other side and the bleed nipple was missing and had been capped (bodge?) so ended up fitting a pair, price from GSF not too bad at about £40 each side once I take the old ones back: Pads greased on the back and fluid bled through and it felt like a new car. The car has loads of old bills and had some money spent on it but it wasn't clear when the oil was last changed, it looked OK but I dropped it anyway. It was raining next day so carried on tinkering starting with a trip to the scrapyard. Why is the car you want always on top of the stack: a GTI no less for the second wiper! So bargain Lupo wiper arms fitted I can see where I am going in this ****ty weather. I also soldered in a new thermal fuse to repair the fan as per the Forum wiki sheet, I would never have found that in a million years otherwise. Camera battery had packed up by now so no photos. Next will be, well, driving it really. This isn't going to be a build thread as I'm keeping it pretty original. I consider myself a bit of a novice mechanic but will probably pop back and update this as and when things are tackled (usually with varying degrees of success). A lighting upgrade is high on the list as I live in the country and my first journey after dark was truly terrifying. Also need a CD player I miss my music. Bye for now Tim
  12. First time Corrado owner saying hello... I'm Tim from Essex I bought this 16v a couple of weeks ago, would have posted this up earlier but it's been giving me some trouble already meaning time spent elsewhere :/ This is my third and 'modern' VW it will also be my daily driver. A VR6 would have been nice but the base ones seem just too cheap?? Here is a pic, pretty pleased with it (problems aside) it has a really clean leather interior, BBS wheels, all the electrics work and it's fairly original which I like:
