  1. I believe it was Mike Edwards old car. I bought it from a guy in Cardiff in November, and I think he bought it from the guy who bought it from Mike (if that makes sense!) It is supposed to be a temporary stop gap car while I find something more sensible for my commute, but I keep ignoring everything that comes up, as it is just so good to drive! Plus I think the 'rocco is enjoying having a younger sibling to play with!
  2. Took a few pics for a previous owner, and I thought you lot may appreciate them too, Anyway: On her own, with her new wheels (which need refurbing, but I am not doing it till there is no more salt on the road! And a couple with her slightly older sibling! :thumbleft:
  3. Jim - I would rather it went in one go, but if I dont have any luck I will give you a shout if that suits? timthetinyhorse - Might think about £35 posted, but I reckon the postage is going to be at least a fiver, so definitely no less than that - drop me a message if you fancy it at that Cheers all Dan
  4. Evening all, When I bought my VR, it came with both an induction cone and an airbox. I am afraid I am a child, and prefer the slightly more raucous cone filter, so the airbox is surplus to requirements. Nothing as far as I can see is broken, or anything serious missing. It could do with one more rubber 'washer' for the feet, as there seems to be one missing, and I think there is one metal clip missing (although none of the plastic fixings for the clips are broken at all) - There are 2 on there, but having never seen a standard VR airbox before, I dont know how many there should be! K&N doesnt look very dirty to me, so I am guessing it is either pretty new, or has fairly recent had a clean and re-oil Pricing seems all over the place for these from what I can see, so £35 ono Can be collected from just outside Swindon, from Cardiff, or with a bit of planning, from Walsall in the West Midlands. I have no problem with posting, but I guess it will cost a bit, as while not too heavy, it is fairly bulky (and there is always the chance that Royal Mails finest will break it en-route!) Any questions, or want any more photos, just shout Dan
  5. I dont know whether this is any help or not, but..... I put a 2.0 16v setup into my Mk1 scirocco a couple of years ago (6a block and KR head so slightky different but same principles) got it all running and was very pleased with it. Came out one day after about a week to find absolutely no life whatsoever. Went through absoluteley everything to try and get it to go, spent hours measuring resistances, swapped coil, plugc, plug leads, dizzy, hell sender etc etc etc After all that, it was the ignition amplifier that had just died - £10 for a second hand one from a forum, and about 2 minutes to change it and my week of pulling my hair out was solved! Absolutely nothing had disturbed it etc - It was just fluke that it had died at that particular time. I dont know where it is on the 9a, but it is a smallish component that looks like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-MK1-MK2-1-8-inc-GTI-16V-G60-NEW-IGNITION-AMPLIFIER-MODULE-83-91-/300740968232 I am not suggesting buying one to try it, but if there is anyone near to you that you could swap theirs in to try it might be worth a look?
  6. Ha ha - I also didnt tell the mrs that I was buying it, she was expecting to pick me up from the train station that night, and I turned up in a corrado at home instead! The journey isnt that bad - 95% motorway, and about 75 miles door to door. It therefore isnt too bad on petrol either (as far as a V6 goes anyway) as I am sat at a steady motorway speed for the majority of the journey. It has been serviced reasonably recently, but I am going to give it a full one soon - If I can eke out another 1 mpg or so, it all makes a difference! To be fair to it reliability wise, I have put nearly 4000 mile on it since the start of November, and other than the ISV muffler exploding and leaving it temporarily stranded in Oxford till I could find some pipe to bypass it, and then the starter motor the other night, it hasnt really missed a beat yet - I dont think that is too bad for such a relatively old car with reasonably high miles. I have had to do both front wheel bearings and a set of tyres so far (although didnt like the wheels too much that were on it when I bought it, so got a set of wheels with half decent tyres already on instead). Heater/Blower motor speed needs looking at, brakes have a slight judder, the seal between plenum chamber and blower is leaking and filling pass. side with water, and a fair amount of tinkering with bits and pieces, but other than that it has basically been well looked after mechanically - electrics all work and the engine is sweet. Biggest visible problem is a slightly tatty body - Has had a replacement wing & door when a previous owner scraped it down a post. The replacement wing is the right colour (midnight blue) but the door is purple, so I need to paint and refit it to get rid of the horrible wind noise coming through it. Also the same previous owner had kept using the then slightly bent drivers door, so it has scraped paint off the sill that I need to sort as well. I think I should stop listing jobs before it upsets me............
  7. Is definitely the starter motor (although I think from having a look that the ignition switch/wiring behind it wants looking at as well) I was just being over dramatic while sat waiting for the RAC man to come and give me a push! With a Mk1 Scirocco I am more than used to the foibles of older cars, it wont put me off, just swear at it for a bit! I think it is Mike Edwards who had it before, it has ben through a couple of hands since I think - I bought it off a guy in Cardiff at a bit of a whim to be honest - Need a car at short notice, need it to do Swindon to Cardiff Back every day, need it reliable - The sensible choice is always an 18 year old V6 coupe made partly by hand at a small volume manufacturer
  8. I take it all back! Sat in a petrol station waiting for the rac - I reckon either starter motor or ignition switch (or wiring for either) has given up the ghost!
  9. I hadnt thought of that - it isnt particularly 'clonky' when taking power up or changing gear etc, which has always been the case when I have had cars with knackered engine mounts in the past - I will check it out
  10. Cheers all - My uncle had VR6s when they were new, so it has been an itch I have intended to scratch for a while - There are a few things I need to sort out, but it is a basically sound car. 163K miles, midnight blue, half leather electric recaros - I was expecting it to be a bit like a Mk2 16v Gti I had for a while, but it is surprisingly 'modern' to drive, even after coming out of an A3 with all the mod cons as a daily (although I guess compared to my Scirocco most stuff feels fairly modern!) I think it used to be owned by someone on here M437 CLC is the registration
  11. Hi All, New to VR ownership and mostly loving it so far, however I do have an irritating (if not the end of the world) problem that I thought I would see if it is a common one. As a rule the car runs well, pulls nicely etc etc, however, it has a very irritationg jerk sometimes when you come off a steady throttle, or if holding on a steady throttle and you adjust your foot. This only seems to happen when over about 3K revs, and only when engine speed has been relatively constant, so for example, if on a private road at a steady 80/90 ish, and you come off throttle to slow down (but without breaking, so perhaps slowing for upcoming traffic) initially there is quite a jerk - almost as if you have lost power (although no accompanying drop in revs - we are talking miliseconds that you get the 'power loss' for) before it settles and loses speed normally. You get the same effect in all gears, so for instance if joining a dual carriageway/mway in 2nd or 3rd, and you hold in gear at about 3-4K revs for acceleration up to speed when you have judged traffic gap etc, the same thing happens if you come off the throttle slightly. I hope I have described that in a way that makes sense - It is difficult to describe! I am guessing that it probably isnt throttle cable etc sticking as it only seems to happen at higher revs Anyone have any bright ideas, or is this a common issue? Cheers in advance folks Dan
  12. Afternoon all, Just taken ownership of a '94 Corrado VR6 - My first VR and I am getting quite quickly addicted! It is supposed to be a stop-gap car after my daily A3 was run into and written off, but I think it is entirely possible it will becomae a bit more long term! Problem is it is my daily (I have a 2.0 16v Mk1 Scirocco as my 'fun' car) and my commute is a 150 mile round trip, so the petrol bills are becoming a bit painful....... Still, sensible choices never end up much fun, so I will live with my stupid but fun decision for a while! I have a couple of tech questions, so will get over to the tech section and stick them in there - Nice to meet you all! Dan
