W3RKD 0 Posted October 6, 2004 yes check all the faces for uneven wear and casing/displacer walls for cracks...

beavis 0 Posted October 6, 2004 Fake rebuilds!!!! We have seen a number of chargers that have numbers stamped into them that have no rellivence at all. Only today mysellf and Darren were looking at a charger that somone had alltered a number on to be passed off a rebuilt unit. If the seller claims the unit has recently been rebuilt then contact the reevent company to x reference the history on the unit.
Tempest 0 Posted October 7, 2004 Latest scam in Germany (causing all sorts of discussions) are so-called brand-new chargers, coming from the company that originally built them for VW, but rumours have it that they are 2nd choice chargers, i.e. ones that should have been scrapped, as they didn't meet VW quality standards. These chargers are often found on German ebay. The only true chargers come from VW, are then purchased by companies such as SLS or similar in the UK (all the usual well-known folk here :D ), who then sell them to the public. Anything else sold as new is suspicious, at least untill the above issue has been resolved. I am still waiting for some victims of having bought these brand-new chargers (for admittedly attractive prices of around the 900 or less Euros  ) to open their chargers, try them out etc. Tempest
Gareth 0 Posted October 8, 2004 thanx for that, german ebay is out of the question now i know that :)
Tempest 0 Posted October 8, 2004 Mate of mine will test his "brand-new" charger this winter, as he told me that it's very difficult to detect the fact that such a new charger is actually 2nd choice. You would need specialist measuring equipment to determine that certain parts inside aren't within the VW-specified tolerances. So, dropping it into his engine bay and doing some boost tests will now be in order ... Tempest

Tempest as i understand it these units are producing less boost as the tolerances between the displacer /casings are greater and not sealing as well as 1st choice units...
