If you'r getting an induction kit, get a ram air style one cos as you have probably seen there is notmuch ventilation in the engine bay and colder air= more bhp.

I heard once (and i dont know how accurate this is) that things like exhausts and filters give about a 3% increase in BHP on average. I got a custom SS system fitted to my 1.8 a few months after I got it and it made a huge difference, although that was mostly due to the fact that EVERY box on the old system was blowing! I did the K&N+drilled airbox mod a while back and ended up having to tape over some of the holes with ductape as it started pinking quite badly.

You're not really going to gain much power from either mod, but a SS exhaust looks nicer and if you pick the right one, sounds the mutts nuts!

oh, and throttle response seemed better after the K&N, but its so slight i'm not sure if i'm just imagining it! :|

I put my airbox back to standard the other week after using the drilled etc and it is slightly better but in terms of noise its so much better. Never liked the induction note with the drilled box and at the end of the day thats all it is about, noise. Makes next to no difference.

Ive tried a few different zorsts on mine and the system i have at the mo is the best>The standard diameter for the zorst is 2&1/4,Ive gone down to 2" as this speeds the gases up and produces more lowdown grunt.I tried fitting a 2&1/4 straight through system justo back box and car felt alot flatter lowdown.

My advice would be to get a system made up from someone like powerflow etc as they would make you a 2" system with free flowing boxes and whatever tailpipe design you like
