Dub Style 0 Posted December 3, 2004 Just wanted to know how do you tell the difference between the 2.8 or 2.9 i know the golf engine clearly shows 2.8 on top of the engine but i just went to view a golf and it had DOHC-VR6 on the top cover like corrado's do...........need to make sure i've got the right one in my car
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 3, 2004 Look at the engine number stamped on the head by the pulleys, or if you're lucky, the factory engine barcode sticker will still be on the rocker cover. AAA is 2.8 ABV is 2.
Dub Style 0 Posted December 3, 2004 kevhaywire, couldnt find no number by the pulleys but i did find the orange bar code on the rocker theres some german kak and then thers a code its either ASV or A5V definatly not ABV :(
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 5, 2004 A5V is possibly ABV but the lettering is worn? The engine number is stamped into the block, just below the head gakset on the pulley side....you might need to sand it off a little but should be visible providing the block isn't too rusty.
