kerrinmay 0 Posted December 16, 2004 I was wondering how a big a job it is to replace engine mounts? I really haven't got a clue about what's involved, does the engine have to come out, or can they be done one by one with it still in situ? Any idea what this job is likely to cost? Henny 0 Posted December 16, 2004 the engine mounts CAN be changed with the engine in place (that's how I did mine!) Basically, it involves undoing the bolts/nuts which hold the mounts on, jacking up the engine/gearbox slightly, pulling out the old mounts and then putting in the new ones and bolting it all back together again... It's relatively easy, but can be a touch fiddly to get the old mounts out and the new ones back in again... :| They should be pretty easy to get at on a Valver, and I'd guess a garage should be able to do all 3 in under 2 hours... 8)
kerrinmay 0 Posted December 16, 2004 Thanks. That doesn't sound too bad. So are there just three mounts then? Where abouts are they? Are they all on the engine or does the gearbox have some as well?
Henny 0 Posted December 16, 2004 Yup, All standard Corrados have 3 mounts... 8) The VR6 has a totally different front mount, but it's in the same location... 8) As you look from the front of the car: One on the rear left of the engine [/*:m:5f015] One at the rear right of the engine bay (actually the gearbox mount)[/*:m:5f015] One on the front middle (ish) of the engine on a bracket which attaches at the join between the gearbox and engine.[/*:m:5f015]
kerrinmay 0 Posted December 16, 2004 Do you know if the actual mounts themselves are very expensive?
Henny 0 Posted December 16, 2004 standard mounts aren't too bad... you can get 'em from Euro or GSF pretty cheaply too... 8)
andycowuk 0 Posted December 16, 2004 just to let you know, incase you are interested in uprated front mount, I have bought a few from EIP tunning in the states. They are getting sent on the 18th (thats the most recent update) so should be available to post on to any buyers by the new year. Untill I find out how much the Gordon Brown factor is, I cant give an exact price, but I am almost 100% sure it would be less than £70 delivered. Let me know if you wnat me to keep one for you (invite extened to anyone!) A F/S post will be made when i know the exact price.

kerrinmay 0 Posted December 16, 2004 Just had a price from main dealer for replacing engine mounts...Firstly they quoted me £179.54 for top suspension mounts (unless I'm not mistaken they are not the same as engine mounts!!)...Then they quoted me £424.74 for the engine mounts!!!! I then promptly rang a specialist I had been given details of and it shouldn't cost me anymore than £200, looks like it might be more like just over £100!!! :D Think I know where I'll be taking my C from now on! Henny 0 Posted December 16, 2004 that latter quote looks about right if it includes labour... 8) GSF say that: front engine mount = £23.50 rear engine mount = £49.50 gearbox mount: = £23.
kerrinmay 0 Posted December 16, 2004 The second quote does include labour and he doubts that they will all need replacing, think he is about £30 per hour.
buttles 0 Posted December 19, 2004 VR Gearbox mount is a 'hyldraulic' unit that should be ok unless it leakes the grease filling
Supercharged 2 Posted December 19, 2004 It can also be replaced by a solid rubber mount from a mk2 golf diesel which are about £12 from GSF
