jamest 0 Posted December 16, 2004 am going to fit a k and n panel to my golf vr6 at the weekend and was wondering if anyone knew the best way to drill the airbox to make it sound savage! holes- size, location, number?!?!?!?! :?: :?: cheers
ben16v 0 Posted December 16, 2004 do the on the wing side to have as little warm engine air enterin the airbox. start off with a few `cos you can always do more. probably about 4-7mm have a search cos there`s a guide somewhere and make sure you only do the bottom half of the box

Jim 2 Posted December 16, 2004 I'd just grab a proper cone filter if you have a VR6 rather than butchering your airbox.. the K&N one isn't all that expensive! The only reason 16v owners can't just do that is because of all the fuel injection sensor information and gubbins that are attached through the airbox, etc. It does sound very good though! :)
Corrado Euge 0 Posted December 16, 2004 The only 16v air filter that is available is a Stroeve Motorsport one, which uses the top part of the air box which has all the sensors on it. That then connects to a plate which is made out of aircraft alluminium and then the cone filter fits to the underside of that. They are available from Eurotek (020 8681 0208). They cost about £120 which is quite expensive, but does the job.
jamest 0 Posted December 16, 2004 just been on the step by step guide and it sorted me out! 4 toyo proxes, an oil change and the installation should have the vr running sweet again!

jamest 0 Posted December 20, 2004 did it at the weekend and it does sound savage!! it seems to have taken 2-3 mpg off the already horrendous fuel consumption though- any ideas? i thought it was said that K and N were supposed "to improve fuel economy"?!? reckon it feels quicker too... :D
flusted 0 Posted December 20, 2004 The reason your mpg has gone down is your caining it to hear the airbox!
RadoAds 0 Posted December 20, 2004 Yup I agree, the noise of a car always makes a difference to your right foot
