Supercharged 2 Posted January 8, 2005 2 litres of Standard DOT 4 or Dot 5.1 (Halfords) DON'T get Dot 5.0!
Nick_Micouris 0 Posted January 8, 2005 Thanks! What do all the DOTs mean then?

Nick_Micouris 0 Posted January 11, 2005 the guy at the stealers was adamant that I only needed 1 litre but I bought two. I take it he was being a fool!
Storm 0 Posted January 11, 2005 Nick, let us know how much you use.
Majik 0 Posted January 11, 2005 and i'll have the rest! Bleeding the brakes you dont need much probably about a litre would do. Make sure the resevoir is doesnt go empty while your bleeding the system, are you going to do the clutch too?
belfastfumanchu 0 Posted January 11, 2005 How often should the brake fluid be changed?
h100vw 0 Posted January 11, 2005 Bi-annually. We are not talking a liking for girls AND boys here!! :shocked!: Gavin
MikeVR6 0 Posted January 11, 2005 I did the brake fluid on mine last weekend when I was fitting a new Clutch Master Cylinder. Took nearly 1 litre. I used ATE dot 4 fluid from ECP. belfastfumanchu The fluid on yours was replaced when I had the master cylinder changed on it. Look through the receipts you got with the car to see how long ago that was. There'll be a receipt for the master cylinder from ECP and another receipt from VW for fitting it. Think a fluid change should be every 2 years unless you're using DOT 5.1 and doing lots of trackdays.
ben16v 0 Posted January 11, 2005 be careful when bleeding the brakes, the master cylinder MAY go as it`s not used to being pushed through it`s full range as i found out on my way back from the garage a couple of weeks ago!
