belfastfumanchu 0 Posted January 14, 2005 Front right brake is sticking intermitently, causing the steering wheel to vibrate and making the wheel really hot to the touch. Disc was glowing red last night after this started happening again. Had to keep on driving for about 3 miles. I've been advised to just drive the car faster and brake harder to shake this off. I havent had a chance to do this properly yet. Any one else experienced this and if so how did you fix it. Replace the pads perhaps?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 14, 2005 Best thing to do is take the caliper off and make sure it hasn't siezed. Make sure the pads move freely too. It's rare, but not unheard of.
belfastfumanchu 0 Posted January 14, 2005 Will do Kev if it doesnt magically fix itself.
Mike Edwards 0 Posted January 14, 2005 This is the perfect opportunity for a brake upgrade. It's also a lot easier than trying to free-off the old carrier (which is the bit that seizes...)
daves16v 1 Posted January 14, 2005 This happened to a previous car of mine. Turned out to be seized caliper.
belfastfumanchu 0 Posted January 14, 2005 Daves16v, was the problem intermitent ? I would of thought that if mine was seized then it would be constant.
daves16v 1 Posted January 14, 2005 No, when it started it was there for good. The wheel on my car was hot to the touch too. I had a recon caliper and that did the trick.
dr_mat 0 Posted January 14, 2005 Had this once on a car that had been standing for a few weeks. Smacked the pad about with a hammer and it loosened up nicely.. ;)
belfastfumanchu 0 Posted January 14, 2005 Well my Corrados not too busy these days. (Winter storing). I thought it was in a warm enough temperture though to avoid that happening. Thanks for your help guys will have it sorted.
belfastfumanchu 0 Posted January 30, 2005 And for anyone else who gets this prob and is flicking through these threads in months to come, the problem was solved by ordering a caliper repair kit from VW for 9 quid. The rubber boot part that goes round the piston was ripped.
