craigbeal 0 Posted February 1, 2005 Hi. My 1.8 16v idles at about 800 and somtimes stalls when cold. idles fine at 1100 revs when warm but doesnt when cold. ISV humms when ignition is on so i guess thats working and checked all vacum lines and all seem connected. also little black switch on thrttole body is plugged in and little rubber swtich on it is pressed in when throttle is on idle. any ideas? flusted 0 Posted February 2, 2005 dodgey warm up reg or not enought timing advance?
aide 0 Posted February 2, 2005 could be overun valve which opens to provide more air when cold, but closes when warm. it's the roundish thing which forms corner between box and inlet tract plastic thing to throttle. apparently you can test em by putting them in the freezer and valve should open, and taken em out and valve should shut
dr_mat 0 Posted February 2, 2005 1100 rpm sounds a little high, imho..?
aide 0 Posted February 2, 2005 yeh your right should be 1000 +- 50 me thinks, but they do rev high at cold and then drop after few moments.
dr_mat 0 Posted February 2, 2005 He said it was doing 1100rpm when *warm*! Perhaps I've just got used to the VR's lethargic 650 rpm tickover...
craigbeal 0 Posted February 2, 2005 my mates corrado idles at around 1050 and my mates 16v golf is at about the same. just over 1000
craigbeal 0 Posted February 2, 2005 it all started when the nut came of on the top of the throttle body where the cable connects to it (dont know its name). It meant that the black switch on the throttle body wasnt being engauged when throttle wasnt being pressed. Put the nut back on but didnt seem to click the switch on still (Wasnt returning enough to normal position and not pressing switch in). So moved the switch fully across to the left. The siwtch now gets pressed in but still not idling right. Cant see how moving the switch a touch to the left would affect anything but then stranger thing have happened?? aide 0 Posted February 2, 2005 you can try resetting the idle, do a serch on here, but basically get to warm up temp, then disconnect the white spade connector with red and black wire at coil, adjust tickover with brass screw on throttle body to 1000... then reconnect spade connector and idle should even out at that level.
