A20 LEE 0 Posted February 5, 2005 Time to start planning for next year, got a mate selling a VR block which will be the perfect start for my new motor. Looking for the best company to overbore/hone it + balance it. Recommendations? Doesn't have to be a VW's specialist, just a cracking engineering shop. I'll handle the assembly myself. Also, what does blueprinting involve?
Jim 2 Posted February 5, 2005 If its a VR engine, then i'd say get it down to Stealth Racing mate quite honestly. I don't think there is anything they can't do with VR6 engines there...
rs200f40 0 Posted February 5, 2005 Only ever heard good things said about Agra Engineering http://www.agra-eng.co.uk/ Was going to get them to rebuild my G60 engine before I decided to go for the 1.8T transplant.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 5, 2005 Another vote for Stealth and also Grant Motorsport. Blue printing IIRC is the process of setting up an engine, removing casting imperfections, tightening tolerances, balancing etc etc. It was mainly done in the good old days when engines left the factory in a pretty rough state but these days engine tolerances are fine enough to not really require BP'ing. dr_mat 0 Posted February 5, 2005 Blueprinting properly also involves e.g. buying 9 pistons, and using the 6 that fit the bore tolerances best. The same applies to all the other components - buy twice as many as you need, and choose the best ones. Hugely expensive process, and like Kev says it's less important these days as factory tolerances are tighter than they used to be.
Supercharged 2 Posted February 5, 2005 Yep, Graham at Stealth (ex-Bentley) looks at VR's all day long, he could probably build one with his eyes shut.
A20 LEE 0 Posted February 5, 2005 Is stealth able to overbore the block and cross hone it or do they subcontract it?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 5, 2005 They can hone but over boring is subcontracted out. Going for a 3.0 are you?
