Neil VR6 0 Posted February 14, 2005 I've got a small coolant leak from one of the components that attaches to the radiator. As you look into the engine bay (of my 1991 G60) there is a resin/plastic 90 degreee bend that fits onto the top of the right hand side of the radiator. It is weeping slightly and I'm concerned it's going to go pop at speed and cause head gasket damage. Could anybody tell me the part number of this or perhaps post up an exploded diagram to confirm what part it is. Cheers
Supercharged 2 Posted February 14, 2005 I don't think these are available seperately from VW (but they do come free if you buy a new Rad!!!) GSF sell them and usually have them in stock, same part as MK2 Golfs if they look confused when you mention Corrado.
Rossco 0 Posted February 14, 2005 Yes they sell the 90 degree bend seperatly and there is also a rubber o-ring you should get as well, if your strapped for loot then just get the o-ring but the 2 things arent expensive. If you still need the part number ill get it for you when i get home, about
Neil VR6 0 Posted February 14, 2005 Cheers for that. I'm taking it into my local VW specialist so he can see it in the flesh. I've got to drive to Folkestone on Thursday and want to be able to make it back! (If you've ever been to Folkestone you'd know why!)
Neil VR6 0 Posted February 14, 2005 I'll get both to be safe. It's actually leaking from the plastic bit on the "seam" where the plastic was moulded. Seems like an odd place to leak from and it concerns me that all the other plastic bits in the engine bay are in a similarly "worn" state.
Supercharged 2 Posted February 14, 2005 Get the other bits too then - plastic sender housing on front of head, also another flange on the side and the thermostst housing is also plastic... May as well change them all if the coolant is being drained... Probably best to buy a new stat and temp senders and don't forget the G12+!
Neil VR6 0 Posted February 14, 2005 I think the plastic sender housing has been replaced actually. If it's the bit that has wires and plugs attached to it then it's been done. (watch out for technical language there! :) ) As for the stat and temp senders I don't know where they are and is G12+ a VAG specific coolant additive? (a guess!) G60Jet 1 Posted February 14, 2005 G12+ os the only coolant to use in the Corrado these days
Neil VR6 0 Posted February 14, 2005 What's wrong with other coolant? Surely it's just an additive to prevent rust and lower the freezing point?
Supercharged 2 Posted February 14, 2005 G12+ is just the latest formular, cheap as chips from VW dealers...
Banana Man 0 Posted February 14, 2005 Heres the exploded diagram off etka for ya
Neil VR6 0 Posted February 14, 2005 Thanks for that Banana Man. I trust the 16v and the 8v G60 1781cc lump have the sam rad & fittings then?
Rossco 0 Posted February 14, 2005 Thanks for that Banana Man. I trust the 16v and the 8v G60 1781cc lump have the sam rad & fittings then? Nope the rad's are different, the 16v one doesnt have the plastic bend your needing and it has the return going out the left hand side of the rad. Neil VR6 0 Posted February 14, 2005 But it's part 19 on that drawing above which shows a 16 engine?
Rossco 0 Posted February 14, 2005 Yep but you'll find that etka is a bit like that, if you notice there is 2 radiators in the picture, the smaller one nearer the bottom is the 16v one the one with the u-bend piece(19) is the G60 one Basicly, part no.s you want are: 535 121 647 535 121
